Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to recruit a dedicated, passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist, to join our core mental health team to cover a period of maternity leave. Applications from Band 5 Occupational Therapists with an interest in career progression are welcome.
The core team provide assessment and interventions for children and young people with complex, severe, and persistent emotional wellbeing and mental health problems providing care as described in NICE guidance. As a specialist mental health team we support young people with moderate, severe and enduring mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.
The successful applicants will join our existing Multi-Disciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work alongside an extensive range of individuals with varying professional backgrounds. This includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, family and systemic practitioner.

There will be scope for creativity in this team, to develop evidence based interventions, to think systemically and work collaboratively with children, young people and families, informed by the local Transformation Plan, Future in Mind and the THRIVE framework. It really is time to think differently and creatively about how we can help more children and young people with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Main duties of the job
- Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with children and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans.
- Assess children's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care to meet their mental health needs and improve quality of life through psychosocial interventions inline with NICE guidance.
- Complete and contribute robust risk assessments and, where appropriate, risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
- Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on a child's conditions.
- To contribute to and evaluate group programmes for children and young people within the Core Mental health team
- Engage in and provide supervision for students and identified colleagues within the team
