Job summary

This role will be a split role working within our newly established Ascend service (Sexual Abuse and Assault Pathway) and our Complex Trauma pathway in East Staffordshire. The Ascend service is provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, North Staffordshire Combined NHS Trust, VCSE (Survive and Woman's Aid) and Staffordshire Police Crime Commissioner. The Complex Trauma pathway is run by MPFT across the South Staffordshire area for adults aged 16+ who have experienced repeated traumatic events

Main duties of the job

  • Make decisions on the suitability of new referrals, identifying the most suitable service for the patient
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate individual therapy programmes for patients that fall between Primary and Secondary services
  • Attend Inter service meetings with regard to referrals
  • Liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies with a regard to referrals
  • Promote and maintain links with services across the Trust to help co-ordinate provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service
  • Provide specialist advice to other professionals from the Trust and voluntary agencies in regard to our therapeutic service provision
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of mental health professionals and other staff working in the service

Good communication skills and an informed clinical judgement are vital to this role as you will be liaising between primary and secondary sectors to facilitate referrals into the complex trauma pathway.

The successful candidate will join a team of CBT/ EMDR Therapists and Assistant Psychologists to work exclusively with patients presenting with sexual abuse complex trauma. You will be responsible for assessing patient suitability and delivering evidenced based, trauma focused interventions.

Applications are invited from BABCP accredited CBT Therapists who have been qualified for a minimum of 2 years and can demonstrate significant clinical experience of working with people experiencing trauma. Training in EMDR and/or experience of working in secondary care mental health services are an advantage, as is experience of or training in providing clinical supervision.

The service works core 9-5 hours but offers therapy opportunities for patients between the hours of 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and in the future, on Saturday mornings. The successful candidates will ideally be prepared to work flexibly to meet service needs within these hours. Approximately 50% of the working week will be office based and 50% can be worked remotely across South Staffordshire
