The Inpatient Acute Mental Health Team are planning to 'Grow our own Occupational Therapist'! You will be employed as a Band 3 Occupational Therapy Apprentice, through the trust's apprentice scheme whilst studying for the Occupational Therapy degree at University.
As your skills develop, we will be able to move you to a Band 4 to reflect the level of independence that you will have in your role. Once qualified you will progress into a Band 5 Occupational Therapist role within Mental Health acute care.
Requirements for this role:
- Minimum of level 2 English and Math's certificate
- A science GCSE at grade C+/ 4
- Demonstration of successful study at level 2 or 3 (A level, Access, BTEC, Diploma, assistant practitioner: 104 UCAS points (BCC) or equivalent).
- Evidence of team working, good communication skills, professional engagement, motivation and evidence of personal and professional values.

The degree course will consist of 2 or 3 years of study depending on your previous qualifications, with protected study time.
The role is based in Shrewsbury at the Redwoods Centre within a very established and supportive AHP team.

Main duties of the job
This is a developmental training position.
- The Occupational Therapy Apprentice will work as part of the inpatient Multi-Disciplinary Team within acute mental health care.
- You will be supervised by a qualified Occupational Therapist within the service.
- You will be expected to provide Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist and feeding back to both the Occupational Therapy team and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Alongside this, you will work towards the completion of the Occupational Therapy Degree Level Apprenticeship meeting the national Occupational Therapy standard which results in a minimum of a BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Degree Level 6 qualification.
- You will have a mentor to support your degree course.
