We are recruiting for a Community Staff Nurse band 5 post 30 hours (0.8) to work within the Families Health and wellbeing 0-19 service Cannock Area
We are excited to have a fixed term contract within the Cannock and Rugeley teams for a qualified staff nurse to work within our Families Health and wellbeing 0-19 Service. This is an excellent opportunity for nurses who would like to develop their career. We are closely linked with several universities and actively support our staff with meaningful appraisals to either enhance their current role or support their future learning with a view to undertaking their Specialist Community Public Health Nursing either in health visiting or school nursing.
Within this community setting the community staff nurse role will promote the health of children aged 0-19 within the Staffordshire area through the public health agenda, thus enabling each child to reach his/her development, and educational potential. You will contribute to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (0-19); ensuring key objectives and outcomes are achieved and to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of the population served. The nature of the service will be determined by local service specifications. This is a dynamic post that requires the Community Staff Nurse to work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams in addressing a range of care and support issues across a spectrum of needs, and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions.
You will be predominately working with children under 5 years and their families, so being enthusiastic, engaging and motivated is essential. You must be confident working automatously as we have several clinics across the community so being able to travel to these venues is essential.
Ideally having a knowledge of child development or having had relevant work experience within children services would be advantageous. However, whether experienced or newly qualified, training will be given along with a competency framework to support the person into the role. Main duties of the job
Training to achieve necessary competencies will be provided
- Assessment of child growth- weigh & measure babies and young people.
- Competent in infant feeding & nutrition and starting solid food.
- Competent in assessment of child development.
- Competent in public health advice delivery - home safety, vaccinations, dental care, safe sleep, behaviour.
- Assessment of maternal mental health and referral onwards.
- Knowledge and competence in safeguarding and child protection.
