Job summary

We are recruiting for a Peer Support Worker (Carer with Lived-experience) to be part of a multi-disciplinary team member for the newly developed Eating Disorder Day Patient Service based at St George's Hospital, Stafford.The post holder will be responsible for undertaking rehabilitation activities for this patient group. Interventions which will also include therapeutic, social support activities, championing recovery focused ways of working and co-delivery of recovery orientated groups and food related rehabilitation tasks.

Main duties of the job

Peer support is recognised as a key component of modern mental health and wellbeing provision.A key feature of this post is to promote individual person centred recovery by drawing on the peer support workers own personal lived experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.As a pivotal and highly valued member of the team, peer support workers will work alongside patients accessing the inpatient service and day programme on both an individual basis and by delivering group interventions, working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team on the ward, in the day programme unit and in the community. This formalised peer support will allow the post holder to provide a safe space for individuals to talk and make sense of their experiences whilst sharing wisdom from their own recovery to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible.

  • Own personal experience of accessing eating disorder services.
  • English language literacy and numeracy skills to the standard necessary to provide clear, understandable records on computerised system and fulfil job description.

Desirable

  • Has experienced transitions within services, for example outpatient care to inpatient, inpatient care to outpatient, child and adolescent services to adult eating disorder services.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of offering formal/informal peer support to people who are navigating recovery / experiencing mental illness from a range of different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience of working independently and as a part of a team (paid or voluntary).
  • Experience of using own history to support others in similar situations.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of facilitating or taking part in peer support groups or settings.
