Main duties of the job

Musculoskeletal Advanced Physiotherapist Band 7 - Clinical Champion

The Musculoskeletal Service at Tamworth & Lichfield are looking to recruit an experienced Physiotherapist to an innovative dual role. The post holder will play a leading role in championing clinical leadership within the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) MSK team with support from the service Clinical and Operational Leads. This role will require you to work with our established clinical champion team across all the Staffordshire MSK services to fulfil your clinical champion element. In MSK Outpatients you will work at an advanced level of clinical practice, with clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage MSK problems and undifferentiated conditions.

You will support the MSK physiotherapy team with the development of clinical, educational, leadership and research skills. You will collaborate with and work alongside colleagues within MPFT including Advanced Practice Physiotherapists (APP), extended scope podiatrists and the Pain management team to promote trust values, improve standardisation and improve the patient experience. Clinical champions will develop, maintain and promote a proactive, positive culture within the team and encourage an open, safe learning style.

Applicants must have relevant postgraduate MSK training and experience at a senior level within the NHS as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Be expected to build working relationships with peer Clinical Champions, Operational Leads and the Clinical Lead within the MSK services to consolidate clinical integration and standardisation across the localities.

Key Responsibilities/DutiesThe following sets out the key role responsibilities for the Advanced Physiotherapist/ Clinical Champion:

1. To establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Partnership Trust and across the MSK services in order to meet service requirements and support and demonstrate the Trusts equality values. Play a leading role in championing clinical leadership within the team with support from the service Clinical Lead and Operational Leads. Develop, maintain and promote a proactive, positive culture within the team and encourage an open, safe learning style. Establish effective working relationships with other members of the integrated service such as Advanced Practice Physiotherapists (APP), extended scope podiatrists and the Pain management team to help meet user requirements. Work alongside and support APPs & Podiatry to develop service improvement Collaborate with and work alongside colleagues from other MSK services within MPFT to promote trust values, improve standardisation and improve the patient experience. 2. CLINICAL To work with advanced levels of autonomy within limits of competence and professional scope and be a role model for advancing clinical practiceTo assess and manage clinical risk and complexity using critical thinking and advanced decision making To manage patients with complex MSK rehabilitation needs where there is no clear need for further diagnostics/secondary care referral. Take a lead in developing rehabilitation protocols/ pathways/ classes that understand and address population needs and enhance the efficacy of MSK clinics To embed evidence based practice within the MSK services through own reading, attendance at training sessions and database searches To demonstrate excellent patient-centered care, supporting shared decision making and empowering others To provide joint clinical learning opportunities for themselves and clinicians to enhance clinical reasoning and rehabilitation skills To assist with clinical triage for referrals into the MSK services 3. EDUCATION To actively contribute to the culture of learning within the MSK services for the clinicians and themselves To be proactive in supporting clinicians and themselves to develop and meet the requirements of clinical competency in all elements of MSK physiotherapy To coordinate, deliver and evaluate an in-service training programme within a quality learning environment and inspiring others to grow Active involvement in practice- based learning, coaching and mentoring/ supervision to support the MSK team to develop and maintain clinical knowledge and skills

LEADERSHIP To create an environment for change and continuous improvement for themselves and the MSK services To lead patient-centred care through developing, implementing and evaluating MPFT MSK clinical pathways To be at the forefront of service transformation and service development To play a leading role in the promotion of the MSK services across MPFT Be part of and contribute to the aims and objectives of the MPFT AHP clinical network forum To be part of the annual appraisal and 6 month review process for MSK clinicians

5. RESEARCH To take the lead, participate in and support the MPFT MSK services in undertaking quality improvement, clinical audit and research To educate clinicians in audit skills, service development, research methodology and statistics so that critical appraisal and the use of research becomes embedded within clinical practice To ensure that appropriate research findings are translated into practice, disseminated to staff and patients and implemented into best practice To evaluate current practice of the MPFT MSK services and themselves which can be submitted and presented as abstracts/ posters at MPFT, national and international conferences or for national publication. Build new and maintain existing networks and relationships with professional bodies/networks, mentors and academics. To write and submit nominations for relevant projects, audits, research, teams and individual staff members to MPFT, national and international awards.
