Job summary
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of a variety of specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions leading on the Occupational Therapy contribution to: assessment, interventions, care planning and evaluation. The overall purpose of the post holder is to ensure that children and young people who are referred into the service have their occupational needs assessed and interventions/recommendations are identified to meet these needs and that these are incorporated into an overall formulation of need and appropriate plan of care. The post holder will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team and will also be expected to be available for consultation, support and clinical supervision to other health professionals working within the e Children and young people's eating disorders service and other areas of the Trust where identified as appropriate.
The post holder will work alongside the team lead and other MDT members to develop, implement and review the ARFID pathway within the service.
Main duties of the job
- Working clinically as an advanced OT in Children and young people's eating disorders service (including ARFID) with the flexibility of working across pathways, dependent on skills, service need and agreed collaborative working arrangements.
- Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients and their families.
- Providing leadership as an Occupational Therapy specialist within the Children and young people's eating disorders service. The post holder would be expected to provide leadership, advice and guidance to OT colleagues and other team members from across different professional groups.
- Managing a complex caseload and responsible for clinical and caseload supervision of other team members.
- The post holder will be responsible for providing the specialist Occupational Therapy process to the Children and young people's eating disorders service
- Delivering specialist Occupational Therapy interventions, in accordance with an agreed care plan, to an identified population of services users and their families.
- Delivering individual and group based interventions in line with the pathway model and evidence base relevant to the client group,
- Undertaking the role of shift coordinator on behalf of the pathway

- Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, some of who may present with complex medical/ mental health needs. Includes specialist assessment, care planning in conjunction with the young person and their family/carers, intervention and evaluation of individual treatment plans).
- Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
- Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
- To review, evaluate and modify as required the occupational therapy intervention, taking account of changes in needs, knowledge, pathological processes, growth, medication and biochemistry etc. This may include offering more intensive support to children , young people and their families as required i.e. home visits, meal support, support at school
- Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following specific Occupational Therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximise an individuals abilities.
- Complete and contribute, where appropriate to robust risk assessments and risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
- Initiate referral to other health professionals as appropriate and to attend multi-disciplinary /multi-agency case conferences or reviews.
- Report any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children, young people and adults by following relevant trust safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Attend and/or organise multi-disciplinary reviews, community reviews etc.
- Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient condition
- Utilise agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of interventions, as part of the care planning and evaluation process.
- Support in the provision of formal and informal training of pre/post registration students, staff members, carers and service users.
- Participate in the development of the service to ensure clinical governance processes are actively implemented at team level.
- Assist in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the department are fulfilled and to identify factors which may inhibit these from being achieved.
- The post holder will be required to work within the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Code of Conduct, and core Standards for Occupational Therapists.
- Maintain an up-to-date level of professional competence within the specific environment.
- To ensure care is provided in line with NICE Guidance, and other relevant local and national documentation.
