Job summary

The role of Highly Specialised and Senior Adult psychotherapist / counselling / clinical psychologist is a new role and part of our expansion plan, to provide a robust clinical leadership framework.

You will work as part of a newly formed senior NHS Talking Therapies clinical leadership team in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin care group. You will work across the care group. The leadership team is made up of a senior clinical lead, senior / highly specialised psychological therapists, senior operational lead and service managers.

You will provide specialist expertise in (Adult psychotherapy including short term psychodynamic therapy / dynamic interpersonal therapy or interpersonal therapy etc). You will also posses an in-depth working knowledge of the main CBT protocols and contemporary practice, the national competency framework for psychodynamic therapies, counselling for depression and other relational therapies. You will have a working and indepth knowledge of the IAPT Manual and a detailed understanding of the NICE guidelines for common mental health problems, including a wider knowledge of the literature informing specialised knowledge.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold specific expertise in a modality of psychological therapy at a Highly Specialised level and will also provide clinical leadership to the service, within a senior clinical team. The post holder will work alongside other Highly Specialised Psychological Therapists and take strategic direction from the Clinical Lead. You will be responsible for ensuring the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist IAPT psychological therapy service to clients with common mental health problems, in a time limited therapy framework. The post holder will assist the Clinical Lead and utilise delegated responsibility as appropriate in ensuring the effective high quality clinical functioning of the service. To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by High Intensity counsellors and psychotherapists primarily, but also include other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

You will have an understanding of IAPT national curriculum standards and will work closely with higher education institutions and operational managers in the smooth running of placement and contribute to financial planning discussions.

You will provide coaching and support to the clinical team and a core aspect of your role will be the provision of consultancy and supervision. You will also hold a clinical caseload comprising of a mix of complex cases, cases that have been hard to allocate as well as some standard cases.

  • Engage in research activity within the services, providing a point of contact and a conduit to research colleagues.

  • To provide supportive clinical leadership to engage and support the workforce in providing effective therapies that engage with individual formulations and treatment goals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Accredited by the UKCP, BACP or NCS as an adult psychotherapist. OR HCPC registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist
  • Minimum of a QAA level 7 qualification (Master's level) in applied psychological therapy practice or psychological research area (e.g. MPhil, MSc, PgDip )
  • IAPT based training in an adult psychotherapy modality (or CfD)

Desirable

  • EMDR accredited consultant & supervisor
  • Completion of IAPT supervisor training or an accredited clinical supervisor in chosen field

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within an IAPT service and skilled in collaborative assessment, formulation and working alongside colleagues from a range of disciplines
  • Track record and experience of implementing evidence based therapies and supervision, which are consistent with IAPT service delivery and the Roth & Pilling competency framework.
  • Experience of working in an IAPT therapy role, for a period to time, to gain a track record and experience of applying specialised therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
