Main duties of the job

The post holder will work to support the IPC team to ensure that the Trust continually improves its performance in reducing Healthcare Associated Infection by developing systems that are evidence based and grounded in best practice. It will be essential for the post holder to work with professionals from a wide variety of disciplines and to support service users/patients being cared for in a safe environment. They will carry out duties relating to surveillance, prevention and control of infection including audit of clinical practice, local education and training and information provision for patient's, carers and staff. They will work closely with staff across Forensic and eating disorder inpatient areas to promote, develop and integrate infection prevention and control practices and procedures in order to achieve compliance. As well as to improve staff and patient safety and improve patient outcomes. Although the post holder will have a main base, they will be required to work across the whole trust from time to time depending on the IPCT annual programme of work.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register.
  • Conforms to NMC requirements.

Desirable

  • BSc Degree in Nursing or Equivalent Level
  • Registered mentor.
  • Recognised IPC Link Worker Qualification.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential

  • Experience of providing care and interventions within a health setting.
  • Experience of Infection Prevention & Control Policies/SOP's.
  • Knowledge of NHS agenda/policy in these areas.
  • Experience of providing group training and education/ presentations involving junior health care workers.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a mental health setting and making decisions autonomously.
  • Experience of training and education and classroom-teaching multi-disciplinary healthcare groups.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Essential

  • Skills of assessing, planning and evaluating care, for people with mental health related difficulties, utilising the principles of Recovery.
  • Skilled in the assessment of clinical risk and developing and communicating appropriate risk management plans.
