- We have received investment to continue to develop our services
- Adult ASD Assessment service is one of our three services; the others being, Autism forensic service and adult mental health liaison
- You will receive formal training in using assessment tools (including ADOS 2 and ADI-R) if you do not have this already.
- We based within the local Autism Hub and work closely with other agencies including Community Voluntary Services (CVS) and Autism West Midlands (AWM) who are commissioned to provide pre and post diagnostic support.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated band 7 Speech and Language Therapist who thrives on using assessment and observation skills to formulate complex presentations. You will be part of a small but experienced multidisciplinary team including Psychology, OT and Speech and Language Therapy. The team offers evidence based diagnostic assessments in line with NICE guidance.

Main duties of the job
You will offer a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to adults seeking a diagnosis of Autism; undertaking clinical diagnostic assessment and advice.
You will deliver a high standard of care using an holistic, person centred approach on a daily basis and provide clinical leadership, teaching and supervision to members of the team.
You will be an autonomous practitioner, working without direct supervision within the context of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the ASD pathways.
You will support less experienced staff and students and colleagues to deliver the Trust contracted services e.g. CVS.
You will provide expert advice in relation to communication and diagnosis for Autistic people; signposting and providing guidance and information to health and social care professionals, patients, carers and relatives.
Provide occasional deputy role for the Allied Health Professional Lead as part of the governance structure with other Band 7 AHPs across Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics but particularly in relation to assisting with Speech and Language Therapy clinical and professional issues.

Obtain and record informed consent from patients at each contact in accordance with Trust policy.
Carry out comprehensive specialist Speech and Language Therapy and diagnostic assessments for patients seeking a diagnosis of Autism. Interpret clinical information and data related to clinical parameters along with non-clinical information and use clinical reasoning skills to accurately diagnose and provide advice and potentially to develop specific treatment plans.
Provide specialist advice or make referrals to other professionals to meet patients holistic care needs across various pathways e.g. dysphagia, communication, positive behaviour support, memory service, forensics.
Provide information and advice related to supporting a persons communication e.g. cards for people to carry and for communication support / techniques in order to communicate during the assessment and recommend them to be considered afterwards.
Maintain and share up to date knowledge of speech and language therapy and autism diagnostic assessment and intervention evidence base developments for this client group.
Lead on teaching and training others in relation to communication and Autism, Autism diagnosis and related Speech and Language Therapy input.
Maintain and share up to date knowledge of instrumental assessment available and to be able to signpost to services who assess and provide this and/or assist in accessing and delivery of these services supporting individuals with Autism.
Contribute to the multi-disciplinary clinical referrals, assessment and discharge planning processes and onward referral as required.
Prioritise urgent or unexpected or planned referrals, adjusting timetables and allocations to meet revised needs.
Undertake other duties when requested by professional or operational managers.
Maintain a professional portfolio to demonstrate competency to practice and which meets the requirements of professional registration.
Demonstrate the ability to facilitate team working across organisational boundaries and with healthcare professionals outside of the Trust.
Be a responsible, clinically autonomous practitioner, working within appropriate professional guidelines and code of conduct.
Be involved in MDT decisions about who is assessed specifically by the Speech and Language Therapist given the information from referrals and screening and then to prioritise and manage workload
Be able to provide remote video appointments online where clinically appropriate
Manage assessment, advice and report through to discharge
Manage often competing clinical and non-clinical demands and prioritize appropriately to meet the overall service need.
Have direct responsibility for client contact when assessing or advising.
Be responsible for the relevant diagnostic and Speech and Language Therapy element of reports.
Provide specialist advice; written or verbal to patients, carers and relatives.
Act as a point of reference for speech and language therapy related clinical matters.
Carry out audit, research and service evaluation regularly to improve service and compliance with local and national standards.
