Midwife - Haamla Team

Leeds Teaching Hospitals trust has an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate midwife to join our award winning Haamla team. This dedicated multi-disciplinary team delivers high-quality, compassionate and safe care for BAME and vulnerable women including Asylum seekers, refugees, women who are the victim of trafficking and FGM, travellers and those who are socially isolated.

The aim of the Haamla team is to improve access within maternity services, ensuring that women from marginalised groups are empowered and are at the centre of care; ensuring they are fully informed of the choices available during pregnancy and birth. We have developed specific integrated care pathways with service user involvement and have become a renowned source of knowledge and information for other similar services. Our individualised care packages for BAME and vulnerable women assists us in helping to close the gap in health inequalities, reducing infant and maternal mortality and improving positive birth outcomes.

Main duties of the job

You will provide case loading care within the womens own homes during the antenatal and postnatal period collaborating with the wider multi-disciplinary team to maintain high standards of care that is responsive and personalised to the needs of the families you care for. You will have detailed knowledge and a passion for working with vulnerable women and be highly motivated and committed to service improvement and development.

The role will also involve working within our antenatal and postnatal FGM clinic in which we provide a holistic service, providing the women we care for with knowledge and understanding of FGM and having important safeguarding discussions with families. All appointments are facilitated using interpreters where required and you will work closely with our senior maternity support workers who provide holistic support for the women and families on your caseload.

About us

Our staff are there every step of the way for the women of Leeds and across the region.

Every day we support women and their families in bringing 29 new babies into the world, and (we think) the best place to be born, Yorkshire!

Working with the Leeds Childrens Hospital, our team of foetal medicine experts

care for babies with complex heart conditions even before they are born. New parents have the knowledge their baby will be safely looked after under one roof, by one team of experts, all the way to adulthood and beyond.

Were really proud of what we do, and we know other people are too, nominating us for the RCM Midwifery Team of the Year and the National Patient Safety Awards in 2017-18 to name a few!

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
