Job summary
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Plastic Surgery team, based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The secondment period will be on a one-year basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual within the CSU to expand on their knowledge and skills, while making independent decisions on patient care. The post holders will have opportunities to be actively involved in the contribution to pathways of care for the lower limb trauma patient and will continue to provide specialist care to service users and their families.
Applicants will require relevant experience in plastic surgery and will be required to help the service to further develop and deliver high quality, as well as compassionate and individualised care. The appointee will work alongside the medical team, as well as in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary teams for the patient cohort.
Acting as the sole trusts plastics clinic nurse specialist for lower limb reconstruction, you will provide advice, support, training and guidance to patients, carers, referring trusts and junior staff members. You will work as an autonomous practitioner liaising and supporting multi-professional teams.
Main duties of the job
You will need a level of wound care knowledge, as well as an understanding of free tissue transfers for traumatic lower limb injury, as well as elective surgery for patient with lower limb bone infection.
You will be expected to visit patients in hospital settings, such as the ward environments and outpatient clinic settings, offering specialist care advice to the patient and other healthcare professionals. You will carry out wound care checks and provide advice where necessary.
A large part of this role is collaborating with other healthcare professionals, clinicians and nurses, imparting your knowledge and experience to provide the best care for the patient. You will also be involved in providing other professionals and service users with education and learning is essential.
The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, using communication of all forms, and skilling in the use of information technology, as well as trust applications.
