An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Peri-Operative Practitioner to join the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit / Recovery Team covering various specialities at St. James Hospital.

The successful candidate will need substantial experience at Band 5 level to be able to join this driven and motivated team to facilitate safe, efficient and effective post-operative care in both acute and elective surgical specialities.

PACU provides an opportunity to develop a wide range of skills within a friendly and supportive environment. These skills include high dependency, airway management, pain management and care of the unconscious patient. The unit provides post-operative care for 23 operating theatres in a variety of theatre suites within St James Hospital. We provide care to a wide range of specialities including: Robotic cases, Urology, Colorectal, Thoracic, Oncology, Gynae, Breast, Ophthalmic, Hepatobilliary, General surgery, Obstetric and acute care.

We are looking for Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner with:

Previous experience, this is essential for the role but additional support is available from the Team Leader and the Education Team to further your skills, knowledge and experience.

The drive to develop leadership skills with this dynamic, innovative team.

Enthusiasm and commitment to provide patient centred care.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly in a demanding environment.

A positive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through evidence based research.

An ability to be able to use your own initiative but also works effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to be able to provide high quality patient care.

A commitment to provide support and education to junior members of the team, a recognised teaching and assessing qualification is desirable for this role.

A willingness to participate in a variety of shifts, bank holidays, evenings, weekends, & nights
