Job summary

We are pleased to recruit to the role of Deputy Chief Nurse (DCN) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and warmly welcome applications from experienced nursing and midwifery leaders who are passionate about the profession, valuing high standards of patient care, workforce development and innovation. The role of the Deputy Chief Nurse is to provide support to the Chief Nurse (CN) across the large CN portfolio, being an active member of the senior NMAHP team. The post holder will have significant knowledge and experience in implementing and supporting a NMAHP strategy as well as in issues relating to quality, patient safety, safeguarding and workforce development. The post holder will be required to work in partnership to manage and develop further Trustwide systems and processes to provide assurance of quality and safe service delivery and appropriate risk management, working alongside the site based and Clinical Service Unit teams. Together with the CN they will lead the development and implementation of quality initiatives to improve patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. In realising this ambition, the DCN will ensure that there are structures in place to support the engagement of clinical staff across the organisation to deliver effective and efficient services to our patients. They will develop a culture that encourages excellence in clinical practice, facilitates team working and multi professional care delivery.

Main duties of the job

To deputise for the CN across all areas of the portfolio as and when required,providing expert leadership, knowledge, and advice to all areas of the portfolio. Working closely with the CN, Deputy Peers (Deputy Chief Nurses),Director of Midwifery, Director of Quality and Heads of Nursing, the post holder will be pivotal in ensuring the provision of an effective,high quality nursing service and will advise on nursing standards and practice within available resources, taking full regard of all professional views and facilitating the development of clinical strategies that ensure the Trusts continued success.The DCN will work with the CN and wider Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional Leadership team to lead the nursing, midwifery,and Allied Health Professional workforce to aspire towards excellence through developing and valuing our talented nursing workforce.The DCN will work within a team of Deputy Chief Nurses either leading on or supporting the delivery of a number of portfolios including, safer staffing, Education and Development, Quality Standards, Harm Free Care, IPC, NMAHP strategy,Patient Experience,and regulatory and professional body compliance.The DCN will support the delivery of our strategic Quality objectives, supported by our values which set the standards of behaviour for all staff, actively promoting a culture aligned to our values.The DCN will work with the Deputy Director of Operations and Deputy Medical Director of Operations
