Job summary

Are you passionate about involving patients and the public in the delivery of health and care research? Are you committed to ensuring all communities have equitable access to research? Are you an experienced and organised Public Involvement and Engagement practitioner?

The post is located in the CRN Y&H Patient and Public Engagement Involvement and Experience team. The team develops and delivers strategies and projects to increase the involvement of patients and the public in the delivery of health and care research, to drive improvement, and to support the participation of greater numbers of the public in research - especially from underserved communities.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual with previous experience in public engagement and involvement particularly relating to underserved communities and gained in the public, private and/or community and voluntary sectors. You will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the health and care research system as well as experience of equality diversity and inclusion in practice.

Working primarily with a network of partner organisations and volunteers, you will be instrumental in the delivery of the regional Public Research Champions and the Research Ready Communities projects. You will also support the involvement of

patients and the public within CRN Y&H and our partner organisations, engaging directly with patients, the general public, peers, and senior colleagues to achieve this.

You will be expected to promote the principles of inclusion and co-production at all times in your work.

About us

The Clinical Research Network Yorkshire and Humber (CRN Y&H) is responsible for the delivery of health and care research in the region.

Based in our office in Leeds as well as working from home, at times you will be expected to work outside office hours. You will also be required to travel to organise, deliver and attend meetings and engagement events, locally, regionally and nationally.

Job responsibilities

Reporting to the PPIEE Manager the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of key aspects of the CRN Y&H PPIEE annual plan, especially the workstreams that relate to:

- Promoting and supporting public engagement in research through managing CRN Y&H public Research Champions (especially JDR and Specialty Champions) and the Research Ready Communities Champions project.

- Promoting and supporting public involvement in research through overseeing the development of the regional Patient and Public Research Advisory Group, made up of CRN Y&H public Research Champions

- Supporting community-based recruitment to current and future research by co-working with CRN Y&H Research Champions and Public Contributors as well as members of relevant staff teams within and outside CRN Y&H.

This will involve working with CRN Y&H staff, public, private, and community/voluntary sector partners including grass-root community organisations, voluntary sector infrastructure bodies, local government/ public health staff, research delivery teams, NIHR family engagement officers, Integrated Care Systems public engagement staff etc., to coordinate public engagement and involvement in research at regional level.

The post holder will need to demonstrate good project management, change management and leadership skills, to ensure a collaborative approach is taken with and between all relevant stakeholders.

The post holder will:

- Contribute to the preparation of the annual PPIEE annual plan and PPIEE quarterly performance reporting, observing the requirements of the national NIHR CRN PPIE Performance Operating Framework (POF), allied national Contract Support Pages (CSPs) and the national PPIE Impact Framework

- Deliver the elements of the Annual PPIEE Plan, as they relate to:

- Public engagement, through the Research Champions (especially JDR and Specialty Champions) and the Research Ready Communities

Champions projects

- Public Involvement, through supporting the development of regional public and patient Research Advisory Group(s)

- Supporting community-based recruitment to current and future studies, by co-working with regional and local Research Champions, Public

Contributors, and members of relevant study recruitment teams, within and outside CRN Y&H

- Monitor the delivery of the projects mentioned above, which could be complex and span a broad range of partners, ensuring that they are

being delivered to agreed time, target, cost and quality standards

- Proactively identify and propose areas for improvements, by making recommendations about future courses of action to support the team

to achieve its objectives

- Liaise with stakeholders and partners to avoid duplication

- Support R&D teams in partner organisations to embed and manage Public Research Champions and Public Contributors roles in their

Volunteer management and support

The post holder will:

- Manage the recruitment, retention, activity, and development of the CRN Y&H public and patient Research Champions, focusing on

Research Ready Community, Join Dementia Research and Specialty Champions, in particular

- Manage the delivery of Research Ready Communities projects in the region, in line with the national PPIE Performance and Operating

Framework (POF) and Contract Support Pages (CSPs). This includes:

- Working with the PPIEE Manager and other CRN Y&H colleagues, identify the most deprived under-served

communities/neighbourhoods in the region

- Recruiting and co-working with grass-root community groups (known as Community Partners) and their members, to deliver and

mainstream Research Ready Communities projects, including recruiting, developing, retaining, overseeing and reporting on activity of
