An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6s role to join our nursing workforce on Ward J17 at Leeds Teaching Hospitals within the Speciality and Integrated Medicine CSU. J17 is a 22 bedded older people female medicine ward specialising in elderly medicine, there is also a 5 side rooms mixed sex unit for CDI patients. Our patients have a wide variety of care needs therefore we are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower a team whilst remaining patient centred. Our patients experience and patient safety underpinning all aspects of the role. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated leader who has a passion for working with medical patients, who delivers high quality patient care, having excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our Senior nursing team. We need you to have an enthusiasm to learn and to be looking to take on new challenges. The successful candidate will be responsible for the direct managerial responsibility for the ward in the absence/ or as delegated by the Senior Sister. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial and leadership/supervision for the nursing team. Main duties of the job
The jobholder will play an essential role assisting Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in teaching the nursing teams throughout the 24-hour period. As an experienced nurse the jobholder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/dept ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for 22 female medical elderly patients and also a 5 bed CDI unit. The jobholder will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of approximately 45 whole time equivalent nurses and support staff.
