Job summary
The
Bone Densitometry (DXA) Service is within the Radiology Service at Leeds
Teaching Hospitals Trusts.
The
service performs a full range of bone densitometry investigations for various
specialities within the Trust and for GPs, is part of a fracture liaison
service, and supports research studies.
We
are seeking to appoint an experienced DXA technologist/radiographer to be a
specialist in all areas of DXA imaging for both adults and paediatrics. The successful candidate should have
experience of performing a full range of investigative scans, including
vertebral fracture assessment. The job holder will be able provide a written
authorised final report to the referring clinician and advise further
investigations or treatment.
Main duties of the job
The
post will be based across the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust where you will
work with the team of DXA radiographers to acquire and analyse DXA imaging.
They will have experience of working in a team, working with patients (adult
and paediatric) and in training staff in DXA imaging.
The
post holder participates in all technical aspects of the provision of the DXA
service. In addition, the post holder will interpret the results to provide
an independent diagnostic report to the referrer.
In
particular, the post holder:
Carries out patient scans.
Analyses patient scans using
proprietary computer software.
Interprets analysed scans.
Participates in the administration
of the service.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust provides tertiary and secondary care and
covers a wide geographical area. The Radiology Service delivers a diagnostic
and treatment service for approximately 600,000 patients a year on 6 sites.
The service comprises several imaging modalities, each with up to 100 staff,
providing a high-quality clinical radiology service for patients.

- BSc (or equivalent) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent/Diploma of the College in Radiographers (Diagnostic)
- Radiographers must hold a state registration (HCPC)
- Post Graduate Qualification
- Expand upon core knowledge using Evidence Based Practice (EBP/Commitment to undergo all training requirements of the post.
- Take a leading role in clinical training programmes in DXA. Acting as a source of highly specialist complex information to more junior staff.
Desirable
- MSc in Radiography/higher diploma in Radiography
- Research module at degree level or evidence of research in practice
- Attendance on assessor course
- Attendance at professional lectures, study days and workshops
- Contribution to CPD programme

- Evidence of experience /expertise in DXA
- Evidence of sound knowledge of clinical practice
- Understanding of specific legislation or guidance appropriate to DXA
- In depth knowledge of current protocols relating to all aspects of DXA imaging practice
