Job summary

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join the Pathology CSU management team as Blood Transfusion Service lead.

This role offers the exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of shaping the vision and strategy for the Blood Transfusion, and the accountability for delivering both the service and the transformation as part of the wider Pathology transformation and the BTLW Pathology new Acute Hospital lab (AHL).

Working with clinical colleagues and the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for leading the service through and to maximise the quality and productivity whilst continuing the focus on staff-engagement and supporting staff to be the best version of themselves as this will be a key priority throughout.

Main duties of the job

As the Service lead for Pathology, the jobholder will manage the service. The post holder is required to perform a range of highly specialist healthcare science clinical, technical and scientific activities. Provide expert advice, opinions and training to own and other professions by fulfilling a key role on the relevant network committees both internally and externally. The postholder will manage a delegated budget for the Pathology service and represent the department as an authorized signatory for amounts governed by the Trusts standing financial instructions. The jobholder will contribute towards overall service development by active participation in a range of people governance procedures consistent with Trust policies and will be required to participate in the training of support, technical, scientific and medical staff as is necessary for the service.

The jobholder will be responsible for the planning and organisation of a broad range of complex activities or programmes some of which are ongoing, which require the formulation and adjustment of plans or strategies. The postholder will be heavily involved in ongoing projects in clinical audit, clinical governance, the formulation, negotiation and approval of inter-trust agreements, and service wide compliance with accreditation requirements.

To manage an integrated and co-ordinated specialised testing service for Leeds Hospitals, local and regional CCGs and the provider-to-provider referrals services for all clients.

  • Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) degree BSc Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent)
  • Masters degree MSc or equivalent experience.
  • Professional State Registration.

Desirable

  • Supervisory or managerial training.
  • Management qualification.

  • Evidence of on-going and relevant training within the speciality / discipline.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
