We
have an opportunity at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) for a
Clinical Scientist to be part of the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory. We have funding for a 1 year fixed term
contract to cover maternity leave. You
will need to be HCPC registered (although consideration will be given to
applicants nearing HCPC registration).
The post will be based at St Jamess University Hospital in Leeds,
within the wider Department of Specialist Laboratory Medicine. The Biochemical Genetics laboratory
provides screening services for the Foetal Anomaly Screening Program (FASP),
Newborn Bloodspot Screening (NBBS) program, and a metabolic service for the
complex investigation and monitoring of inborn errors of metabolism. These are all regional services involving
much interaction with multidisciplinary teams from different trusts.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will support both screening programs with daily reporting of
newborn and FASP screening results, liaison with relevant clinical teams and
aiding in the development of these services.
They will also be able to maintain general Biochemistry skills and
knowledge by participating in the Duty Biochemist rotas. The post holder will work within an
established Biochemical Genetics and Screening team of staff consisting of 4
Clinical Scientists (including this post), Specialist Biomedical Scientists
and HBSWs. Support and training will
be provided for all aspects of the role.
This is an exciting time to work at Leeds as soon we will move into
the new, purpose-built Centre for Laboratory Medicine on the St Jamess
University Hospital site.
