Planned Interview Date

13th December

The Department of Blood Sciences is seeking to recruit experienced Advanced Biomedical Scientists in Haematology to help shape, deliver and improve the service we deliver to our patients. This is a great time to join one of the largest Pathology departments in the country, and in advance of moving to our new purpose designed Pathology building (on the St. Jamess University Hospital site) and new Acute Hospital Laboratory (on the Leeds General Infirmary site).

We encourage all candidates to contact us to discuss the role(s) and we can offer informal visits to our laboratories for interested candidates.

Interview will be held in person, due to practical elements of the interview process.

Full/part time roles are available.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Blood Sciences management team. Reporting to the Service Leads, they will be responsible for the operational delivery of a 24/7 Haematology and Coagulation service across the Trust, supported by the wider management team and other key scientific and clinical staff. The successful candidate will play a significant role in the delivery of two new Blood Sciences laboratories, one of which will be a regional hub.

Candidates must be registered with the HCPC, hold an MSc (or level 7 equivalent) and have significant and recent experience in the discipline of Haematology and Coagulation. Experience of working at this level in a similar role, of leading large teams, of quality management/service improvement and of laboratory automation would be advantageous for this senior role.

About us

Our Pathology services operate across two large university teaching hospitals in the Leeds Metropolitan area with a population of around 2.3 million and provide services both regionally and nationally. In addition to the new laboratory projects, we are also working to deploy a West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) regional LIMS, and a new Managed Pathology Service Contract. Construction on the new Leeds Children's Hospital is also about to start, which will include all in-patient maternity and specialist neonatal services to become the largest single site maternity centre in the UK.

Blood Sciences has a very engaged multi-disciplinary senior team and a well-developed quality management system. The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider scientific and clinical teams. The Blood Sciences Department is accredited to ISO15189 and by the IBMS as a training laboratory in both Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
