Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for developing future technologies to join the Pathology CSU Management Team as Pathology Technology and Innovation Lead.

This rewarding role offers the exciting opportunity to promote and develop future technology innovations that will not only improve the timeliness and safety of patient testing, but also the incorporation of technologies to improve the working lives of our staff.

The Pathology CSU is going through a time of significant change as we develop a brand-new facility, introduce new regional IT systems and further develop plans to work more effectively with our partners in nearby Trusts. As were also rolling out new laboratory equipment across the service, so were keen to have an individual in the management team looking ahead, and working up future developments in the biomedical field.

We are expecting a high demand of applications on this role and may close the job post early due to this.

Main duties of the job

The Ideal individual will have awareness of diverse range specialties within the pathology service, as well as demonstrable IT development skills that result in innovative improvement to service. The individual must also demonstrate good networking skill in the relationships between the laboratories, external and commercial providers, and our legal partners.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a key member of the Departmental Management Team working across the Pathology CSU. Leading and supporting the design and implementation of new and novel technologies to support the current and future delivery of Pathology services to improve patient care.

The individual will also lead on the bidding process for capital and revenue funds that become available through international, national, regional and local funding arrangements to facilitate the evaluation and implementation of novel innovative technologies.

The post holder will work closely with the Pathology CSU Senior Leadership Quad Team, departmental clinical leads, service managers and operational leads within pathology. They will maintain excellent working relationships with service users (internally and externally to LTHT). The post holder will also be working closely with biomedical and technology vendors in the design and delivery of new systems and processes at all stages of the development, evaluation and implementation cycle. The post holder is likely to work with academic organisations and the NIHR Clinical Research Network for Yorkshire and Humber.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Lead and develop the innovation strategy for Pathology CSU

Have oversight of budgets directly concerning the innovation delivery.

Support laboratory leadership in the realisation of benefits (e.g. waste reduction, workflow and efficiency savings) and the operationalisation of innovative workstreams

Focus on innovation, developments and studies which relate to innovations within pathology service delivery.

Active engagement with the Pathology CSU Management Team to ensure clear co-ordination and communication of research governance issues, linking with the R&I CSU at LTHT and other R&I teams locally, regionally and nationally as appropriate

Work with research bodies where required (e.g. NIHR Local Clinical Research Network for Yorkshire & Humber)

Develop, disseminate and ensure compliance with key policies and SOPs relating to innovation, especially in relation to the maintenance of accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Engage in continuous review and development to ensure national research governance requirements are met.

Support the Pathology Clinical Lead for Research to develop and implement joint processes for the management of research across the CSU and with Academic Partners, vendors and the promotion of links with other local NHS Trusts (and other healthcare and research providers), to promote an integrated approach to research management across the pathology service at LTHT, and other Pathology stakeholders across WYAAT where appropriate.

Compile high level reports to meet internal and external (DoH, NIHR etc.) reporting requirements.

Responsibility for the design and implementation of Pathology sample tracking systems, imaging systems with service specific capabilities for manipulation/ reporting of test results, and Artificial Intelligence developments to meet the specifications of Pathology CSU.

Maintain and promote close liaisons with the Trust R&I department

Support and co-ordinate preparation of business cases and bids for funding to support the growth, development and work of the Pathology CSU

Lead initiatives to maintain and improve the quality of the Trusts innovation environment and infrastructure within the CSU.

Work proactively with the Corporate Services and Clinical Service Unit management teams to embed research governance management within day to day management and to promote the importance of innovation as a central part of the Trusts and CSUs mission and its integration within the Trusts Quality Agenda. The post holder will support the Pathology Clinical Lead for Research to ensure that researchers and CSU leads are aware of and complying with their roles under the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research (HRA 2017) and other regulatory and statutory obligations.

Work with senior research management staff and researchers within the Trust and the Pathology Clinical Lead for Research to promote collaborative working between the Trust and its University and industry partners so that management processes and policies are aligned.

To support the Pathology Clinical Lead for Research to provide highly specialist advice on all aspects of the research process in particular interpreting legislative and regulatory requirements and providing guidance to researchers on fulfilling their obligations.

Represent the Department and Trust at internal and external events.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring dissemination of key developments across the CSU, taking an active role in responding to the challenges posed to the Trust by changes in national policy.

Act as a Deputy to the General Manager, Deputy General Manager and Head of Profession, as per scope of practice concerning innovation and service developments.
