Job summary
This role is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Radionuclide Therapy Service, based in the Bexley Wing at St Jamess University Hospital, the Regional Cancer Centre for Yorkshire. The post holder will deliver a highly specialised clinical service in collaboration with Clinical Scientists, Medical Physics and clinical teams, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care.
Duties include individualised pre-treatment planning, administration of radionuclide therapies, diagnostic imaging, supervision of staff, and coordination of patient scheduling. Therapies include radioiodine ablation for thyroid cancer, treatment of thyrotoxicosis and palliative therapies such as radium-223 for metastatic prostate cancer.
The post holder will contribute to service audits, protocol development and implementation of quality improvements within the ISO-accredited quality management system. They will act as Radiation Protection Supervisor for Radionuclide Therapy (training provided) and support staff development through supervision and teaching.
This role requires a high level of autonomy, professional judgement and close liaison with clinical and scientific colleagues to maintain and develop a robust, safe and responsive therapy service.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of the radionuclide therapy service, ensuring high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and operational effectiveness. They will work independently and collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, supporting service development, pre-treatment planning, and patient-specific therapeutic procedures.
Duties include performing and supervising the administration of therapeutic and diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, overseeing imaging and non-imaging procedures, and ensuring appropriate scheduling and preparation of patients. The post holder will also evaluate clinical information, advise on referrals, and provide tailored radiation protection guidance.
They will supervise and train clinical and technical staff, support student learning, and contribute to quality assurance processes under an ISO9001-accredited system. The role includes leading on audits, maintaining clinical protocols, monitoring resource use, and promoting continuous improvement across the service.
They will also support research activity, participate in clinical trials, and contribute to departmental policy, governance, and safety initiatives.
