Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for potential candidates to join our Surgical Oncology team as a Clerk/Typist. You will work closely with the medical secretaries to ensure all typing targets are met. Whilst also being responsible for other admin duties such as opening and scanning the post and referrals, other duties will include covering clinic reception, and the taking of telephone calls from various departments and other units. This is an opportunity to work closely within a team whilst undertaking a varied administrative role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to manage a busy workload is key for this role. They will be able to demonstrate typing and administration skills to a high standard. You will be able to demonstrate a good telephone manner, whilst being able to deal with challenging queries.

The surgical Oncology administrative team is made up of: Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Gynaecology oncology and Thoracic Surgery services. All teams work closely and collaboratively, giving support to each other.

Job responsibilities

. JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The post holder will work closely with the consultant body within a supportive and encouraging environment within the Surgical Oncology team. General duties will include the typing of correspondence, clinic letters, and discharge summaries, dealing with telephone enquiries and supporting the various referrals to treatment targets. Covering the reception clinics.

RSA II in audio typing or equivalent experience is a desired requirement to undertake this varied and interesting role, along with a good standard of English. We offer support through a structured period of induction, and opportunities for professional development in a supportive environment

. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Typing of medical reports/patient details onto a computerised system.

Dealing with correspondence, incoming and outgoing, that any senior member of the department may require.

Dealing with telephone enquiries from hospital staff, outside agencies and patients.

Typing of medical letters onto the system.

General clerical duties which include filing, photocopying and faxing.

Provide cover in reception eg act as reception clerk, dealing with queries from patients, medical staff and outside agencies, including telephone enquiries.

Other duties

To liaise with colleagues and other disciplines as necessary.

To maintain knowledge of office equipment based in the Department.

To participate in the appraisal process as outlined by Trust policies and procedures.

To take on additional and changing duties commensurate with the grade as defined by the APSC in response to demands made upon the Department.
