PRINCIPAL
DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Supervision
& Management
To be responsible for the
day-to-day supervision of the quality system, thereby helping to ensure the
maintenance of the highest standards of care and service;
to participate in management
meetings within the Department of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering and the Clinical
Service Unit to ensure quality management underpins all decisions,
developments, and policies;
to liaise with the leads in each
discipline to assign tasks aimed at delivering, implementing and maintaining
a quality system designed to meet all prevailing standards and/or
regulations;
to manage their own time and
prioritise work in order to meet agreed targets and outcomes;
to oversee the planning,
implementation and developemnt of the quality system by bringing together
team members from all disciplines;
to lead and train (where
applicable) staff to conduct internal quality audits
to supervise any staff assigned to
assist with the quality system, where appropriate.
to give presentations and provide
training where necessary to staff relating to quality management in the
Department of Medical Physics & Engineering to promote quality issues
across the organisation;
Quality
Management
To develop and maintain the quality
system that adheres to ISO 9001 and take responsibility for the quality
policy and quality manual including regular review and updates;
to organise the regular management
review of the quality system, with senior departmental and hospital
management and chair or deputise the Quality Management review meetings
to provide a full annual report for
managers as part of the management review;
to liaise with external auditors
and inspectors in relation to ISO 9001 accreditation and clinic accreditation
with the Clinical Movement Analysis Society (CMAS) and other accreditation
schmes as required
Communicate complex issues and
negotiates with external organisations.
to organise and plan the
inspections to maintain ISO 9001 quality management with external bodies
Effectively incorporate all
sections within Department into the Quality Management System
to provide information periodically
for management review, including technical and quality management reports;
to participate, along with area
leads, in the setting of targets and minimum standards across the
organisation, with reference to ISO and other relevant standards;
to participate along with the area
leads to devlop cost improvements whilst delivering a quality service
to participate in regular service
development meetings to continually improve service and develop strategic
plans to achieve these goals.
to monitor and analyse complex
information around performance against these targets through gathering
relevant data and producing statistical reports;
to carry out process audits to
determine compliance with tests and procedures, so ensuring these are
properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that modifications are
investigated if necessary;
to be responsible for lisiaisng
with section leaders to perform root cause analysis where necessary, to look
at incident trends and report these to the Senior Management Group and
governance meeting
to troubleshoot across the
organisation in order to develop and maintain the quality of the service;
to define Standard Operating
Procedures in collaboration with relevant staff members, and produce these in
a standardised format;
to develop and maintain a document
control and management system, using hard copies or electronic systems as
necessary, and including archiving;
to apply the quality system in
compliance with national and Trust policies, including environmental and
health and safety standards;
to keep full and accurate records
of all work in a format that facilitates audit trails to be followed for the
purposes of accreditation, whilst also maintaining confidentiality;
to promote the quality system to
all other staff members by motivating, instructing, teaching and informing
them;
to deliver general and specialist
training on all aspects of quality management to a wide range of staff,
including students, trainee and clinical scientists, technical, medical,
nursing and administrative staff as appropriate.
Professional
To monitor developments in the
field of quality systems, with particular reference to the field of
healthcare science and medicine, and develop state-of-the-art practices
locally;
to liaise regionally, nationally
and internationally with other centres regarding quality management and
accreditation;
to maintain effective communication
with professionals e.g., medical, nursing, auditors outwith the
department to maintain effective services;
to maintain professional
development through participation in a Continuing Professional Development
Scheme, if appropriate;
to participate in the Trust
Performance Management Review scheme.
to participate in clinical
governance meetings
to lead in the development and
implementation of departmental policies relating to areas of specialist
responsibility. The jobholder will
contribute towards overall service improvement by participation in and the implementation
of departmental policy development and by active participation in a range of
quality governance procedures consistent with Trust policies.
Data
Collection & Audit
To ensure the collection and
maintenance of data as part of the Departments quality management system
database,; this will include auditing current practice including some
statistical analysis of the data to identify trends which may indicate
further interventions to ensure best practice
working with the area leads to
ensure data submissions are performed
within the specified time frames and to assist with clinical and financial
data validation where necessary
to be responsible for, and
participate in, the audits of performance of the Department as a whole and as
individuals which may involve sensitive discussions around indivual
performance.;
to be responsible for collating of
the Departments audits and inputting to Trust clinical audit framework
to be responsible for Quality
Assurance under the guidance of the leads, including data audit, assessment
of performance, and development and refinement of QC procedures;
to participate in the Departments
regular audit, clinical review and
other meetings.
To present quality management
information to the clinical teams on a
regular basis in the governance forums and lead strategy plans related to
quality. The postholder would be expected to manage action trackers and delegate
tasks to the most appropriate personnel to ensure continuos quality
improvement.
Research
To provide support to research
staff in managing data and performance measures;
to participate in the
Departmentsresearch and audit programmes; the Quality Manager is encouraged
to attend and present at scientific and technical meetings if applicable.
