Job summary
Applications are invited for a new Band 8A Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Imaging) in the Leeds Cancer Centre, St Jamess University Hospital. This is initially to support the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance Innovation award to develop MR-only planning pathways for external beam brain radiotherapy.
We are looking for a Clinical Scientist with expert experience in radiotherapy physics and a track record in research and development.
We have a strong multi-disciplinary approach to working and the successful candidate will provide expert medical physics support to the radiotherapy physics service. This is a 2-year position to lead the clinical implementation of novel AI-based auto-contouring and radiotherapy planning techniques using MRI alone (MR-only planning) for brain cancer radiotherapy, including workforce training to embed these technologies. This work will provide treatment workflow efficiencies for NHS staff and patients, as well as improving treatment quality, leading to better patient experiences and outcomes. The project will focus on brain cancers as they are defined as rare by the NSO programme and have significant clinical need, as well as being a departmental research and innovation area of interest, with preliminary work already complete. However, the work is highly transferrable to other cancer sites and this technology transfer is part of our future vision for the service and for the role.
