Perioperative assistant, Wharfedale Theatres
An
exciting opportunity has arisen within Theatres and Anaesthesia for a Senior
Perioperative assistant to join the Wharfedale Theatre Team. This is an
exciting opportunity to join our team at Wharfedale where we have just opened
our brand-new operating theatres. You will be joining a growing team in a
4-theatre operating suite. The Senior Perioperative assistant role within
theatres takes on the role of the Scrub Practitioner where you will scrub for a
variety of clinical procedures in several different specialties supported by
Registered staff. You will also work in the circulating role, supporting the
effective running of operating lists, positioning and pressure area care of the
patient and organisation of equipment. You will also work in the recovery area,
supporting the registered staff to care for patients post operatively.
You
will have Significant experience of working within a perioperative setting and
have NVQ 3 in Health and Social care, Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support, or
equivalent health care related qualification and hold an additional Perioperative
Scrub Qualification.

Main duties of the job
The
jobholder will work within theatres providing direct and indirect care for
patients in support of Perioperative Practitioners, and medical staff under the
supervision of a registered Perioperative practitioner. The jobholder is
expected to deliver and maintain high standards of acute and planned care.
The
role will undertake a defined scrub role. Senior Perioperative Assistants are
expected to perform in the scrub role to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
standard, but will cover a more limited range of procedures agreed for the
surgical speciality they are allocated to as detailed in the Assessment of
procedures appropriate for a Band 3 Senior Perioperative Assistant document.
The
job holder will communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to
facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working.
The
jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective
care.

Essential
- Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, or equivalent health care related qualification plus additional perioperative specific units
- The Care Certificate or in the absence of this the jobholder must successfully attain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment
- Willing to undergo additional training as required
- Additional Perioperative Scrub Qualification
