Job summary
Do you enjoy typing? Do you enjoy working to strict deadlines? Are you a fully trained, experienced audio typist/secretary? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a departmental secretary in the Neurology Department at Leeds General Infirmary for a fixed period of 12 months to cover maternity leave. This is a full time post (37.5 hours per week) and will include some home working, once the successful candidate has completed training and proved their competency.
We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible and hardworking person. Candidates must have excellent typing speeds, accuracy and be able to work as part of a team under minimal supervision and work to strict deadlines. Previous typing experience in an office environment is essential. A good telephone manner and experience of handling a high volume of typing is essential. The candidates must be able to prioritise their workloads and be able to work under pressure.
RSA II or equivalent in audio typing is an essential requirement to undertake this predominantly typing role, along with GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.

Main duties of the job
Main duties are:
Audio typing using the EPRO digital dictation system.
Ensuring typing standards of 5 day turnaround are met so patient care is not compromised.
Answer phone calls when necessary to cover band 4 secretarial leave etc.
Open and distribute post.
Any other general administrative duties associated with the consultant/clinical team workloads.

About us
The Centre for Neurosciences CSU provides the clinical management support for the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, Pain, Stroke and Neurophysiology. Mr Robert Rathbone is the General Manager. Dr Jonathan Bilman is Clinical Director and Ms Linda Hayward is the Business Manager for Neurology, Stroke and Neurophysiology.
There are currently 13 medical secretaries in the Neurology department, supported by 1 Business Manager, 1 Patient Services Co-ordinator and 7 clerks.
