Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated and enthusiastic qualified pharmacy technician to join the pharmacy Clinical Trials Management team. Applicants should

have an active interest in clinical trials.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals has an expanding portfolio of commercial and non-commercial, hosted and sponsored clinical trials, with the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team currently providing support to over 350+ trials.

You will work as part of our dedicated Clinical Trials team alongside other technicians, pharmacist, assistants and apprentices providing support services to the clinical trial research teams.

You will act as a point of contact for clinical research associates, investigators and research staff, playing a key role in setting up trials and the day-to-day maintenance of studies at all hospitals within our Trust.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role where you will be able to develop your leadership skills to manage the development of the dispensary team and support the daily workflow.

You will rely on your comprehensive technical knowledge to manage the pharmacy requirements for handling medicinal products (dispensing, accuracy checking, drug accountability, storage, disposal of medicinal products).

You will support the set-up and maintenance of all clinical trials within pharmacy processing and implementing amendments to ensure that all trials are conducted in accordance with the highest possible standards, and in compliance with the principles of GCP (Good Clinical Practice).

Experience in clinical trials would be an advantage however is not a requirement as all necessary training will be provided and we will support you through a structured learning pathway.

Line management and supervision of staff within assigned area. Direct and support staff assigned to the specific area on rotation including other technical grades, pre-registration and qualified pharmacists. Responsible for training and development, attendance management including co-ordination of annual leave and lieu time for staff assigned to that area. Maintain links with other Specialist Pharmacy Technicians, managers and other pharmacy staff to ensure a safe and efficient service. Ensure departmental work is completed within agreed deadlines. Ensure equipment and materials are used responsibly relating to Trust risk assessments. Ensure all staff complies with Trust and Pharmacy Policies and Procedures. Responsible for all stock control ensuring optimum stock levels and minimal wastage, including ordering and receipt of medicines and consumables into designated area. Report departmental statistics, including dispensing errors and incidents, to relevant services manager on a monthly basis.
