Are you looking for a 12-month fixed term contract as a pharmacist Lecturer/ Practitioner? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic pharmacist with excellent clinical, teaching and time management skills to work in a post with 50% of time spent working at the Leeds University and 50% of time at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

During the time spent at the Leeds Trust the post holder will work within the adult specialities based at the Leeds General Infirmary.

In the university role the post holder will work within the Pharmacy team (School of Healthcare and Faculty of Medicine and Health) supporting the delivery of the Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice and multi-disciplinary independent prescribing course. They will be involved in the delivery and assessment of these programmes as well as teaching and supervision of pharmacy related subjects to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare professionals.

This is an exciting time to work in education and development with the ongoing and future changes to pharmacist education. The successful candidate will already have experience teaching pharmacy or clinical colleagues and be keen to further develop their skills.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacist Lecturer (Leeds university) your main duties will be to:

Provide innovative research-led teaching and assessment, using technology where appropriate.

Contribute to the planning, development, delivery and review of modules and programmes.

Provide support and academic supervision to students, referring when appropriate

As a Pharmacist Practitioner (Leeds Trust) your main duties will be to;

Provide highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within a given speciality.

Within clinical and operational speciality ensure medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust Policy, standard operating procedures and medicines legislation.

Supervise, tutor and assess junior pharmacy staff.

Provide a service commitment as part of job plan to a specified area within the pharmacy department i.e dispensary, aseptics, or medicines information.

The post is offered on a full-time basis and the post holder will be required to work evening and weekends at the Leeds Trust.

Job responsibilities

Job purpose

To provide operational and strategic input into the education, training and professional development of pharmacists. The post holder will also provide a clinical pharmacy service to a clinical speciality.

Job dimensions

Provides specialist professional leadership for a defined area of education, training or professional development within Pharmacy.

Designs appropriate structures and develops teaching methods that best meet the students' and department's requirements.

Provides expert opinion, both within and outside pharmacy on the education, training and development of healthcare workers with regards to the safe and effective use of drug therapy.

Supervises tutors and assesses junior pharmacy staff.

They are professionally accountable for their actions.

Provide sessional cover in an operational service area

To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in line with local procedures. The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Masters qualification in Pharmacy (4 years), or equivalent qualification, plus 1 year pre-registration training.

Registrant of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience or qualification

Substantial post registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist. Ability to demonstrate foundation level competencies in all 6 domains of the Advanced to Consultant Level Framework (ACLF)

Minimum of two years experience of mentoring, assessing and appraising postgraduate students or trainee pharmacy students.

Have undertaken training in educational theory (e.g. MEd. PGCE, Train the Trainer)

Experience of dealing with complex clinical issues which require the pharmacist to analyse a range of sources, which may not be in agreement, to formulate a response. It may be necessary to find a novel solution to an unusual clinical situation.

Possess negotiating and persuasive skills for interacting with other clinical team members, hospital managers, patients and relatives

Experience of dealing with a wide variety and grade of hospital staff on a regular and on-going basis, including senior multidisciplinary and managerial staff.
