Job summary

We are looking for new people to join our growing team preparing ready to administer intravenous medicines in a cleanroom environment.

The Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit operates under a manufacturing licence and provides an essential service for patients in Leeds. We are based at Moor House in Hunslet.

We would be interested to hear from candidates who have a commitment to support the NHS and an interest in Pharmacy. Although this post has no direct patient contact, the service we provide offers high quality pharmaceutical products to help our patients. This is a fantastic chance to explore the numerous opportunities that an NHS pharmacy career provides.

The post is a full-time post of 37.5 hours per week, to be worked flexibly over a 4-day working week (Monday to Friday) but the post holder must work until 7pm as part of some of the shifts.

Main duties of the job

This job role is to work as a part of a team in a specialised area under cleanroom conditions to provide IV medicines to patients. It is a specialised post which requires extensive training to gain competencies to carry out this role.

You will be required to work towards achieving a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification. Applicants must be able to meet the requirements for basic skills Maths and English Level 1 or equivalent. Previous experience in pharmacy is not required as full support will be provided.

The role involves using aseptic technique to prepare sterile IV medicines as well as support duties such as assembling of products, and cleaning of the aseptic facility and equipment in accordance with SOPs. In addition to this you will support our Dispensary Support Unit over labelling and repackaging products.

To perform this role, you will need to have good manual dexterity and a high ability to concentrate whilst maintaining accuracy. There is also a requirement to wear PPE.

Job responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Working to relevant SOPs and undertaking a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification

Required to work in dispensaries, stores, aseptic units and on wards/clinical areas

Receipt of consignments from suppliers, including checking and booking into the Pharmacy Computer System. Prompt reporting of discrepancies to the stores supervisor.

Deal with returned goods from customers and process paperwork according to SOPs. Includes processing and re-cycling unused medicines returned from wards.

Carry out routine stock control procedures. Ensure stock is located under correct storage conditions and continuous evaluation of stock levels, stock rotation and expiry dates is undertaken.

Perform necessary clerical tasks associated with the service. These may be manual but more routinely involve keyboard data entry onto the JAC system. This includes order entry, stock list maintenance & printing, issuing to correct cost centres.

Participate in regular stock-takes according to departmental procedures.

Contribute to the ward & department medicines top-up service.

Pick and pack orders for distribution, under supervision. Pack and process materials for sterilization.

Over-labelling of commercial packs.

Deliver medicines to wards and departments, ensuring compliance with Trust Medicines Management policies.

Maintenance of work areas and good housekeeping in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Operation of specialist equipment e.g. powered stacking equipment, aseptic tray washer, tablet packaging equipment etc

Cleaning aseptic facilities and equipment in accordance with SOPs

Transfer waste (pharmaceutical and household) to the appropriate collection points, according to procedures
