Job summary
We
are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist with excellent clinical, teaching
and time management skills to work in a post with 50% of time working at the
University of Bradford and 50% of time at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
This
is an exciting time to work in education and development and to be involved
in implementing change that will influence practice for decades to come. The successful candidate will already have
teaching experience and be keen to further develop their skills. We are also keen to receive applications
from those who have been a supervisor for trainee pharmacists,
post-registration pharmacists or equivalent.
You will have already developed your skills in this area through a
teaching or training qualification or a similar development programme.
The
University role involves the planning, delivery and assessment of
undergraduate teaching and some additional assessment on the post graduate
Diploma in Foundation Pharmacy Practice (multi-sector). The post holder will also contribute to
undergraduate placement provision in terms of both planning and delivery.
The
post is offered on a full time basis and the post holder will be required to
work evening and weekend shifts.

Main duties of the job
Areas
of Responsibility within Leeds Teaching Hospitals (LTHT) 0.5WTE
Provides clinical and service cover
within a ward team (known as clinical clusters at LTHT).
Develops an area of special
interest to enable development of advanced pharmacist skills as defined by
the job description and professional frameworks.
Manages and co-ordinates pharmacy
undergraduate clinical placements for students based at LTHT.
Support the Pharmacy Workforce
Development Team in the development of Medicines Management and Pharmacy
Services staff.
Contribute to evening and weekend
services in a dispensary, on wards or aseptics depending on prior experience.
Areas
of Responsibility within University of Bradford 0.5WTE
Contribute to undergraduate
teaching across the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences.
To be an active participant in one
or more interdisciplinary teams developing and delivering teaching and
assessment on the MPharm programme.
Work as part of the placements team
to facilitate and develop MPharm placements at LTHT.
Contribute towards the assessment
of the Postgraduate Diploma in Foundation Pharmacy Practice (multi-sector).
Provide advice and pastoral support
to students on the MPharm programme, through the role of Personal Academic
Tutor.
Support the recruitment and
admissions of the undergraduate MPharm and Postgraduate Programmes in
Pharmacy and Medical Sciences.
The

Job purpose
To provide operational and strategic input into the education, training and professional development of pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacy students. The post holder will also provide a clinical pharmacy service to a clinical speciality.
Job dimensions
Provides specialist professional leadership for a defined area of education, training or professional development within Pharmacy. Designs appropriate structures and develops teaching methods that best meet the students' and department's requirements.
Provides expert opinion, both within and outside pharmacy on the education, training and development of healthcare workers with regards to the safe and effective use of drug therapy. Supervises tutors and assesses junior pharmacy staff.
Provides highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within a given clinical speciality.
Within their clinical speciality ensures medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust Policy, standard operating procedures and medicines legislation. They are professionally accountable for their actions.
Provide sessional cover in an operational service area
To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in line with local procedures.
The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Masters qualification in Pharmacy (4 years), or equivalent qualification, plus 1 year pre-registration training.
Registrant of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience or qualification
Substantial post registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist. Ability to demonstrate foundation level competencies in all 6 domains of the Advanced to Consultant Level Framework (ACLF)
Minimum of two years experience of mentoring, assessing and appraising postgraduate students or pre-registration pharmacy students.
Have undertaken training in educational theory (e.g. MEd. PGCE, Train the Trainer)
Experience of dealing with complex clinical issues which require the pharmacist to analyse a range of sources, which may not be in agreement, to formulate a response. It may be necessary to find a novel solution to an unusual clinical situation.
Possess negotiating and persuasive skills for interacting with other clinical team members, hospital managers, patients and relatives
Experience of dealing with a wide variety and grade of hospital staff on a regular and on-going basis, including senior multidisciplinary and managerial staff.
