Job summary
This
Paediatric Cardiology Fellow role is for an initial period of 12 months. The
role is designed to support the service delivered within the Leeds General
Infirmary Paediatric cardiology department. The post does not attract a formal
UK national training number, and as per the current curriculum requirements for
Paediatric cardiology, the experience gained during the procedure cannot be
counted towards a formal registrar training period (even if a numbered post is
later obtained by the trainee).
This
role would best suit an individual who is at ST3-4 level and is keen to gain
more exposure to paediatric cardiology than is currently offered during junior
paediatric training for resident doctors (at ST 1-3 stages). It would be ideal
for a doctor who is building their experience to support a future application
for a UK training number in Paediatric Cardiology.
Main duties of the job
The
successful candidate will be assigned an educational supervisor and will
receive exposure to both elective and non-elective inpatient and outpatient
paediatric cardiology work. This will include experience in ward patient
management, Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive care cardiology. Although the
major focus of the post will be in supporting service delivery in these areas,
depending on the previous experience of the successful candidate, there may be
opportunities for some exposure to sub-specialty work including advanced echo,
advanced cross-sectional imaging, cardiac catheterisation, fetal cardiology and
electrophysiology. Due to the focus on service delivery, this specific role
would not be suitable for a candidate who already holds a UK national training
number in Paediatric Cardiology and is looking to train in a sub-specialty area
in ST7 or ST8.
The
appointee will be expected to undertake audit and quality improvement projects,
as well as to attend clinical governance meetings, mortality and morbidity
meetings, regional and national educational meetings. Research activity is
encouraged.
The
appointee will actively participate in the local educational programme of
teaching undergraduates as well as postgraduates.
