Job summary
We are delighted to announce the further expansion of the General Surgery Junior Clinical Fellow programme. After the successful delivery of this programme over the last 3 years we are looking to appoint full time Junior Clinical Fellows (JCFs) to start in August 2025 on an initial 12 month contract. The applicant is expected to have a major interest in a career in General Surgery. MRCS or equivalent is not essential but desirable and basic clinical surgical skills (FY2 or equivalent) should be demonstrated. We would expect the successful applicant to be able to perform at the level expected of a Day 1 Core Surgical Trainee. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be eligible to work in the UK.
Main duties of the job
These posts combine emergency surgery on call exposure, elective activity in a base specialty and allotted time for pursuing secondary interests including academia, management/leadership and surgical education. The new posts will contribute to the SHO level emergency general surgery rota on a 1:4.5 rota frequency. The unit is training-focused and successful applicants will be given access to regular laparoscopic simulation sessions and core level training lists as part of their rotation.
