Job summary
The
post involves working on the stroke and neurology wards at an SHO level and
participating in the on-call rota (currently 1:12) covering stroke and
neurology admissions as well as inpatient work. The on-call pattern involves
day working, twilight shifts, and night shifts supported by an onsite Medical
Registrar. Occasionally, cross over may be needed for Chapel Allerton
Hospital stroke rehab ward during normal working day.
This
post provides an opportunity to gain experience both in stroke and neurology,
as well as aspects of general medicine, elderly care, vascular surgery,
neuroradiology and neurosurgery. There
are also opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in
teaching and training, both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level,
clinical governance and clinical improvement work. Self directed training
time is included in the rota for this post, and the doctor will also be
invited to join the education programme within the department.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will work alongside the team of Consultants, other Resident
doctors, Physician associates, Advanced nurse practitioners, and the wider
multidisciplinary team. Examples of duties include:
Participating in the day-to-day
functioning of stroke and neurology, including Consultant ward rounds, reviews
of patients and clinical ward tasks
Participating in the on-call Rota as
described.
Promoting high professional standards
of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the
maintenance of continuing professional development relevant to scope of
practice.

About us
This
Trust is one of the largest in the UK providing high quality acute hospital
services for the population of Leeds and the surrounding area and acts as a
regional center for a number of specialist services such as cancer, cardiac and
neurosurgery, treating about one million people per year.
Leeds
General Infirmary houses a 10-bedded Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) and a
further 22 bedded Acute Stroke Unit (ASU), both located on ward L21. The
service offers thrombolysis treatment as well as mechanical thrombectomy to the
West Yorkshire region. Patients are looked after by a team of Stroke and
Neurology consultants with a broad range of experience and specialist
interests. A TIA clinic is operated on a
daily basis, as well as follow up clinics for discharged patients.
The
Neurology department is situated on ward L17 in Leeds General Infirmary and
covers a wide range of neurological speciality care.
