Job responsibilities

This post is for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine. This is a whole time/part time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

This post is 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical. The culture and behaviours in ED are well known to be grounded firmly on the principle that the workforce is the single most valuable asset. This is demonstrated on a continuous basis by attitudes and behaviours which are supportive, helpful, non - blaming and friendly. The team approach is completely embedded in the department and all staff are wholly focused on providing a fast and effective patient service. We currently have 24/7 Consultant on shop floor at Leeds General Infirmary ( MTC) and 16/7 Hrs Consultant at St James University Hospital.

The Non clinical time is built into the job to deliver various projects on going in the departments. We also have a generous study budget.

The principal of this job is to support and mentor doctors to grow their Clinical and non-clinical skills.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The individual will work a full shift pattern, working ~36 clinical hours per week. There will be on average 9 hours per week of non-clinical time to enable an individual to pursue a special interest in for example undergraduate education, quality improvement, guideline development, and research.

Clinical Experience and Career Progression

Essential

• 12 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice; including:

• Either ALS/APLS/EPLS/ATLS
• Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements
• Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity which:
• focuses on patient safety and clinical improvement
• demonstrates an interest in and commitment to the specialty beyond the mandatory curriculum
• Evidence of interest in, and experience of teaching
• Evidence of feedback for teaching

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

• Relevant higher degree
• Higher academic qualification (eg. MD and / or PhD)
• Working towards FRCEM primary

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

Essential

• Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise & on specialist register on, the GMC at intended start date
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
• Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
• All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
• That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or
• academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least 7.5 in each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing),with an overall score of at least 7.5, to
• to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time of application
• If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills
