An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated paediatrician
(ST5 or above) with an interest in Paediatric Diabetes to join Leeds Teaching
Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital, as a Paediatric Diabetes Fellow for a
period of 12 months commencing September 2025. This post would be suitable for
a trainee requesting an Out of Programme Pause from training who would like to
train in the care of children and young people with diabetes.
Main duties of the job
The
Paediatric Diabetes Fellows role will include:
Clinical management of inpatients with diabetes, both newly diagnosed and
with known diabetes.
Out-patient diabetes clinics alongside the multi-disciplinary team. This
successful applicant will become proficient in the use of all aspects of
diabetes related technologies including hybrid closed loops.
Attendance at multi-disciplinary team meetings (twice weekly), including
monthly quality assurance and improvement meeting.
Participation in a diabetes quality improvement project with the MDT.
Support diabetes education for ward staff as well as medical, nursing,
dietetic, psychology and play students.
Participate in and contribute to departmental education sessions.
Support diabetes-based research.

outpatient service takes place at St Jamess University Hospital, with
clinics running daily (10-14 clinics/week including specific clinics for
children <7 years and young people >16 years). The inpatient service is
based at Leeds General Infirmary, along with the other inpatient services for
children.
There
is a focus on embedding the use of diabetes related technologies into routine
clinical practice, including hybrid closed loop technology. There is also a
focus on giving all our families the opportunity to take part in the current
research trials underway in all forms of diabetes in children.
We
are at the forefront of developing and adopting innovations in clinical
practice and are responsible for the co-development of the multi -award
winning Digibete web-platform and App that is now signposted and financially
supported by NHS England.
The
Paediatric Diabetes Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience in
all aspects of diabetes care, from diagnosis through to transition to the
young adult diabetes service at the age of 19 years. Through our teaching
programme and supervised clinical activity, the post holder will gain
confidence in the clinical management of diabetes in children and young
people and develop skills in providing diabetes input to the many complex
patients within the hospital, including post-transplant and oncology.
We
will support the successful candidate in all aspects of experience required

full on-call commitment to general paediatrics. The post-holder will take
