Job summary
We
are looking to recruit a higher specialist paediatric trainee to join the
team for a period of 6 months with possible further
extension depending on performance. On call duties will be on the specialty
paediatric HST rota. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in
specialist training in paediatric hepatology. Please note this post is not
suitable for those wishing to undertake a medical training initiative (MTI)
training programme.
The
successful applicant will join a team involved in running a
supra-regional Paediatric Hepatology, Hepatobiliary surgery and Liver
Transplant service. Leeds is one of only 3 paediatric hepatology units within
the UK. The ward has 16 beds shared between hepatology and the regional renal
and renal transplant service. PICU and all other paediatric specialities are
on site. There are subspecialty clinics in metabolic liver disease, viral
hepatitis, fatty liver disease and adolescent and transitional care. Outreach
clinics are held throughout the North of England and Scotland.
The
team is led by five consultant paediatric hepatologists together with
paediatric hepatobiliary and transplant surgeons. There are also two ST 6-8
doctors on the team, and in addition doctors at ST2 or ST3 level support the
ward. There will be the
opportunity for some on call shifts and this can be discussed

opportunities for clinical teaching. The post-holder will have the opportunity
to participate in medical audit and local/multi-centre research projects.

Paediatric Hepatology Department in Leeds is a National Specialist Service for
the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children who have a wide
range of acute and chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, or intrahepatic
lesions. The department is one of three national centres for Paediatric Liver
Transplant and has a close relationship with other specialties at Leeds
Childrens Hospital including gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology,
haematology and oncology and rheumatology, for joint management of multisystem
disorders.

paediatrics/paediatric specialities. We have a very robust teaching programme
that involves radiology meetings, grand rounds, junior doctor seminar,
paediatric MDT, safeguarding peer review, and journal clubs on a weekly
basis. We also have simulation programmes, governance meetings monthly. The
successful candidate will be encouraged to attend these meetings.
We
also have year 4 medical student teaching sessions, when they are posted in
Paediatrics.
The
successful candidate will have a comprehensive induction programme and will
be assigned a supervisor to support them during their post.

Wednesday morning. The ward and clinic service commitment will be shared
