Paediatric
Surgery Trust Doctor
Applications
are invited for four posts as a Specialty doctor (Trust Grade) in Paediatric
surgery (ST1-ST2 equivalent), which is available for a period of 6 months.
This
Paediatric Surgical Trust Grade Doctor position where possible will be tailored to an individuals
training desires.
The
routine work includes care of patients in the Leeds General Infirmary, with
exposure to theatre lists and out-patient clinics.
The
post is full time and the appointee will be expected to take part in the
Resident out of hours rota(1:10 rolling pattern including night shifts). The
majority of the out of hours involves general Paediatric surgery, Neonatal
surgery and Trauma. The candidate will therefore be expected to have
competencies in the management of the sick child and a range of acute and
elective work preferably with some training or experience in Paediatric
Surgery. Equivalent generic experience and competencies through paediatrics
or emergency medicine for example will also be considered favourably.
The
department provides a wide range of General and specialist Paediatric surgery
including minimal invasive surgery and robotic surgery.
These
posts would particularly benefit applicants interested in pursuing a career
in Paediatric surgery or other surgical specialties with a significant
paediatric workload.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will support the on call rota equivalent to ST1-ST2. The Doctor
will be rotated to cover the paediatric surgical ward on 42, surgical newborn
unit, outliers, ED, LCAT (short stay) units and theatres or clinics. This gives
ample opportunity to see the breadth of patients in paediatric surgery and
manage them both in an elective and emergency context.
There
are several theatre lists both emergency and elective on a daily basis and
clinics most days. All are encouraged to go to take advantage of any of these
as per their choice and availability. All trainees are allocated a clinical
supervisor within the department and if they do not have an educational
supervisor in their rotation are allocated one within the department as well.
All
trainees should attend the daily morning handover at 8:00- 8:30am and join the
ward round if they are not going to either theatre or clinic.
About us
The
department provides exposure to all surgical aspects of children ranging from 0
16 years. This includes general surgery of childhood to highly specialised
skills in Thoracic Surgery, Upper GI Surgery, Lower GI Surgery, Hepatobiliary
Surgery, Oncology Surgery, Neonatal Surgery and Urology. There are 2/3
consultants per specialty providing elective specialty work and all consultants
participate in acute on call (1:10) to provide general surgery for children and
trauma service.
