Job summary
The
post will form an integral part of the middle grade/StR rota in the Clinical
Haematology department in Leeds. This a large and diverse unit with an existing
medical team of around 20 consultant staff and up to 12 training registrars as
well as FY/IMT trainees, Physician Associates, Advanced Clinical Practitioners,
and SAS doctors. There is a substantial specialist and subspecialist practice
in all aspects of haematological malignancy, general and benign haematology,
cellular therapy, and bone marrow transplantation, presenting many
opportunities for career development in all areas of the specialty.
The
appointee will work alongside the middle grade staff on the registrar rota,
covering both inpatient
and outpatient work and with an approximately 1:8 weekend work.
There
will be opportunity to rotate through a variety of subspecialty areas within
Haematology over
the 12 month locum period, gaining experience in the inpatient
and outpatient management of patients with myeloid and lymphoid malignancies, myeloma, patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic
stem celltransplantation,
and patients with non-malignant haematological conditions.
Main duties of the job
Attend
daily morning handover.
Review
and manage inpatients and attend ward rounds on the haematology wards working
with different subspecialty teams - myeloid, bone marrow transplant, lymphoma,
myeloma, chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, haemostasis & thrombosis.
To
be part of the inpatient team working together with members of the MDT -
consultants, physician associates, SAS doctors, STRs, IMT, Foundation Year
doctors, nurse specialists etc.
Assess
patients attending the haematology assessment unit acutely.
See patients on the day unit and chemo unit when
required.

Haematology team is a large multidisciplinary team and is part of the Oncology
Clinical Services Unit (CSU) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are
based within Bexley Wing at St James University Hospital and provide inpatient,
day case, and outpatient care to adult haematology patients covering malignant
and non-malignant haematology, bone marrow transplant, immune effector cell
therapy, and clinical trials. There is also a Teenage and Young Adult Unit.

to increase the capacity and continuity of our medical staffing atmiddle
grade / StR level. The post will be offered initially for a period of 12

inpatient beds on wards J88 and J89 and up to 20 additional haematology
inpatients on other wards, including a Teenage and Young Adult Unit.

OF THE POST
The
post-holder will be part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Haematology

not essential.
We
are looking for candidates who would be able to work alongside the middle grade

in laboratory haematology will be encouraged but is not essential depending on
the experience and interest of candidates; however clinical advice and liaison
regarding haematological laboratory enquiries from around the hospital (e.g.
