Job summary

We are inviting applications to fill our (STR level) vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Cardiology.

The post is required from from February 2025 for period of one year with option of extend to two years by mutual consent.

We are inviting applications for the post of Trust Doctor in Cardiology (ST6+ level) at the Leeds General Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the successful candidate will be working within the registrar team in the cardiology department. These posts would be ideally suited to those with some experience in cardiology and basic echo skills.

These appointments will be based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a regional population of over 3 million.

There will be an expectation to deliver two general cardiology clinics per week as well as a contribution to the general cardiology Specialty Registrar rota (full shift). The successful applicants will also be expected to support in patient care under the supervision of the consultant team. The post holders will spend 12 hours per week undertaking training and/or their own supervised lists in cardiac ultrasound (echo). An expanding research and clinical trials programme is in place, in which the successful candidates will be expected to participate fully, with a protected session for research and audit in the timetable.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of application.

TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING

Whilst the advertised post is a Trust Doctor, it is expected that the successful applicant will be able to access opportunities to attend weekly teaching and monthly educational departmental meetings.

An expanding research and clinical trials programme is in place, in which the successful candidate will be expected to participate fully, with a protected session for research and audit in the timetable.

Depending on the candidates level of experience and needs, training opportunities can be tailored, including basic angiography and pacing, as well as more complex interventional procedures.

The post is fixed term starting February 2025 to cover a period of reduced rotational StR posts.

The candidate should have basic skills in echocardiography in order to perform on call duties (LV function, valve assessment and assessment for significant pericardial fluid) at a tertiary cardiac centre.

  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical practise.
  • Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1competencies in medicine (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training)
