Applications
are invited for a 4 month Locum Consultant Post in Oral Medicine. This post
provides an opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team with a shared
vision of improving standards of Oral Medicine care. This locum 10 PA post reflects the need to
support and enhance secondary and tertiary Oral Medicine services in Leeds and
surrounding areas. The post is offered
by the Leeds Dental Institute in partnership with the School of Dentistry at
the University of Leeds reflecting the key role of education in workforce
professional development for students and registrants.
The
successful applicant must hold full registration with the General Dental
Council (GDC) and be on the Specialist list for Oral Medicine or within 6
months of CCST at the time of interview, if currently within a training
programme within the UK. All other
categories of doctors must be on the GDC Specialist List at the point of taking
up the post.
A
commitment to teaching and training the workforce is essential. The role will
include opportunities to work within a team to develop quality improvement and
leadership skills.
Consideration
will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those
wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job
The
Trust expects consultants to deliver clinical service as agreed with
commissioners and other stakeholders.
This will include:
meeting the objectives of the post (see above)
continuously improving the quality and efficiency of personal and team practice
working with other staff and teams to ensure that the various criteria for
service delivery are met, such as
o
achieving the best clinical outcomes within the resources available
o
waiting times
o
infection control standards
Consultants
in LTHT are line managed by their specialty Lead Clinician working in
conjunction with a Business Manager.
This specialty team is then managed alongside a number of other
specialties in a Clinical Service (or Support) Unit (CSU) led by a Clinical
Director as the responsible person and supported by a full time General Manager
and a full time Head of Nursing.
The role of locum consultant in Oral Medicine will be
expected to provide clinical management and leadership to deliver raising the
standards of care for all patients falling within the scope of specialist Oral
Medicine practice. Important
responsibilities include, but are not limited to, specialist clinical care
underpinned by excellence in Quality Improvement, professional development of
the current and future clinical workforce, plus contributions to research and
wider NHS and University citizenship.
The role has impact across the Yorkshire and Humber region and beyond.
