Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Locum consultant
within the Plastic Surgery Business Unit at the Leeds General Infirmary. The
successful candidate will hold Full GMC Registration, Basic Medical
Qualification, FRCS (Plast) or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist
Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if
currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have
been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Main duties of the job
This
is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, with special
interests in skin cancer and any other sub specialty that fits in with the
needs of the department. This post is for a period of 6 months in the first
instance and is pending a substantive post.
The
post will be based at Leeds General with possible travel to St James, Wharfdale
and Chapel Allerton.
Applicants
should have skills in all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. Excellent communication and team working
skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

This

post will deliver 10PAs
The
post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary with possible travel to St James,
Wharfdale and Chapel Allerton.
The
Plastic Surgery Department is based at the Leeds General Infirmary. The Plastic
Surgery Unit has 18 adult beds, access to paediatric wards and 4 beds on our
dedicated High Dependency Unit. A daily dressing clinic with a separate Sister
and staff also operates within the Unit. The Plastic Surgery service has a
dedicated Hand Unit, with three operating tables, its own staff and facilities.
Incorporated into the unit is its own outpatient Hand Clinic, with a highly
experienced on-site specialist Hand Therapy team (Physiotherapy and
Occupational therapy), supported by an in-house dressing care team. This
Specialist Unit offers a high standard
and quality of care.
Outside
of the main Unit at Leeds General Infirmary, Plastic Surgery out-patient
clinics are held at St. James's University Hospital, with the skin cancer
clinic held jointly with Dermatology at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The Melanoma
Service is a highly regarded and provides leading multidisciplinary care, with
weekly clinics held jointly with Dermatology and Oncology, in the Cancer Unit
at Bexley Wing, St James University Hospital. In addition, combined clinics
with appropriate departments are held in head and neck oncology, craniofacial
surgery, rheumatology, sarcoma and surgical oncology, breast, melanoma,
non-melanoma skin cancer. The Leeds Hospitals NHS Trust has Cancer Centre
status and this department also provides microsurgical reconstructive support
to the Centre and affiliated specialities.
A
congenital hand service, hand transplant service and brachial plexus injury
service is also provided for the Region.
The
successful applicant will have the opportunity to join an established team,
supporting the development and strengthening of the Unit. In addition, this is
an opportunity to strengthen the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by
supporting other activity, as well as developing and strengthening areas of own
chosen expertise.
OBJECTIVES
