Job summary

We are looking to fill this temporary post within the Neurology Department at Leeds General Infirmary for a fixed term of 6 months initially, starting immediately.

The successful applicant should posses MRCP (or equivalent) and should be able to manage acute medical and common neurological emergencies. The successful candidate will be part of 10 middle grade rota covering ward duties, on call and will be expected to do both general and sub speciality outpatient clinics.

Although this is not a training post, there will be plenty of opportunities for learning, able to take part in the departmental and educational meetings. There are also plenty of opportunities to take part in our ongoing quality improvement projects and research.

This post will provide an excellent opportunity to acquire experience in managing a wide range of neurological conditions in a tertiary neurosciences centre.

This post would be most suitable for a core trainee at ST3+ level who is wishing to obtain further experience in neurology.

Main duties of the job

The post would involve working on the stroke and neurology wards at an middle grade level (ST3+) and participating in a 1 in 10 on call rota covering neurology admissions and inpatients. The on-call pattern involves day working and non-resident night shifts supported by an onsite Medical Registrar and on call neurology consultant.

Applicant is expected to rotate through fixed blocks of Acute neurology, ward cover, acute neurology clinics and other sub-speciality clinics. They are encouraged to attend neuroradiology and weekly regional academic meetings and present interesting cases for discussion including monthly CPC.

There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in teaching and training, both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to neurology research, clinical governance, and quality improvement work. Self directed training time is included in the rota for this post.

This post will be based at the Leeds General Infirmary with outreach to St James Hospital when on call.
