Job summary
We
are seeking to recruit a senior clinical fellow in gastroenterology at the
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
This post will be available to start as soon as possible. Previous fellows have
been successful in their applications to the national higher specialty training
scheme, having gained valuable experience from the wide range of opportunities
in our departments. We would also be able to support an experienced
gastroenterology trainee looking to advance their training in a luminal
subspecialty. Training in EUS or ERCP is NOT offered with this post.
Expertise
within the departments encompasses inflammatory bowel disease, advanced
endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary medicine, small bowel disease, nutrition,
hepatology, transplant medicine and academic research. Our three modern endoscopy departments have
recently been refurbished with state-of-the-art equipment.
The
post-holder will contribute to gastroenterology and general hepatology ward
cover and to the middle grade gastroenterology on-call rota which is 12-hour
resident shift. The post is not accredited for training. Candidates must be
fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to
practice at the time of application.
Main duties of the job
The
post-holder will contribute to inpatient care of gastroenterology and general
hepatology patients (predominantly on ward 91 and 92,) gastroenterology
outpatient clinics and the middle grade gastroenterology out of hours rota.
Some liver transplant patient cover may be included in on-call
responsibilities, with appropriate senior support. Training in endoscopy is
provided and will be appropriate for the post-holders level of experience. We
are not able to provide ERCP or EUS training with this post.
Currently
inpatient work is organised into 2-week periods. Approximately one third of the
time will be spent on inpatient duties which include attending consultant ward
rounds (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,) leading ward rounds on the other days,
supervising junior colleagues, participation in the weekly radiology meeting
and review of inpatient ward referrals.
Outpatient
clinics and endoscopy lists under consultant supervision are scheduled during
non-ward weeks. Clinics are predominantly general gastroenterology and
specialist IBD clinics, but other sub-specialty experience can be included.
Some clinics may be conducted by telephone or video.
We
have a weekly programme of departmental CPD activity. This includes
histopathology, radiology, and clinical governance meetings. There are plenty
of opportunities to develop teaching skills in ward based or more formal
settings, including simulation.
