Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated paediatrician
(ST4 or above) with an interest in Paediatric Diabetes to join Leeds Teaching
Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital, as a Paediatric Diabetes Fellow for a
period of 12 months commencing September 2024.
This
post would be suitable for a trainee requesting an Out of Programme Pause from
training who would like to train in the care of children and young people with
diabetes
Main duties of the job
The
Paediatric Diabetes Fellows role will include:
Clinical management of inpatients with diabetes, both newly diagnosed and with
known diabetes
Out-patient diabetes clinics alongside the multi-disciplinary team. This
successful applicant will become proficient in the use of all aspects of
diabetes related technologies including hybrid closed loops.
Attendance at multi-disciplinary team meetings (twice weekly), including
monthly quality assurance and improvement meeting.
Participation in a diabetes quality improvement project with the MDT
Support diabetes education for ward staff as
well as medical, nursing, dietetic, psychology and play students
Participate in and contribute to departmental education sessions Support diabetes-based
research
On call commitment in General Paediatrics
The
role suits trainees who are:
Motivated to learn about all aspects of caring for children and young people
with diabetes and their families.
Wish to work with a highly motivated and very experienced diabetes team, with
the goal of providing the best diabetes care to all.

This post will be clinical with the diabetes
team during daytime working with full on call commitment to general
paediatrics.

Services in the country and cares for over 530 children, young people and their
families living with diabetes. The service is expanding quickly and has seen a
steady increase in the numbers over the last 5 years. We receive local
referrals from the surrounding areas and regional referrals from all over the
country.

have a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of doctors, specialist
nurses, dietitians, clinical psychologists, play therapists and youth workers.
