Job summary

CONSULTANT DERMATOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN SKIN CANCER AND COMMUNITY-LED DERMATOLOGY SERVICES

This is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Dermatologist with special interests in skin cancer and community services. This post will be available from May 2024 for a period of 6 months. This post will deliver 10PAs supporting the Dermatology team. The post-holder will provide support for the skin cancer services, delivering 2 week wait skin cancer clinics and skin cancer surgery, as well as general clinics and community-led clinics.

The post will be based at Chapel Allerton Hospital.

The successful applicant should hold membership in the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in Dermatology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post will support the general dermatology service and the current skin cancer service, which acts as a local and regional centre for the management of skin cancer in accordance with NICE Improving Outcomes Guidance. This post will also provide support in the Community-led Dermatology services.

Specifically:

To enhance the current provision of rapid access diagnostic skin cancer clinics and enable the Trust to meet agreed levels of activity and access targets.

To enhance the current provision of skin cancer surgery.

To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive skin cancer multidisciplinary team.

To contribute to enhancing the current provision for general dermatology services

To contribute to enhancing the current provision for Community Dermatology services and help to develop patient pathways.

The unit hosts the Regional Specialist MDT for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer, Melanoma and

Cutaneous Lymphoma. There are also close working relationships with the Head and Neck MDT

and the Sarcoma MDT.

The post holder will be a member of the Local Skin Cancer MDT and Regional Specialist

Non Melanoma Skin Cancer MDT and will be involved in the management

of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (there is a separate Melanoma MDT

for melanoma Stage 1b).

The Skin Cancer Team includes Dermatologists, Mohs Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons,

Clinical Oncologists, Dermatopathologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners

and an MDT Coordinator.
