Job summary
This is a 10 PA locum appointment for Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist. This post will be available from as soon as possible for a period of six months.
The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the anaesthetic team at the Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital Leeds.
The post will be based at The Leeds General Infirmary.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. Main duties of the job
To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive cardiac anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust
To develop and/or consolidate expertise in cardiac anaesthesia.
To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust.
To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.
To participate in and progress Clinical Governance
The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of cardiac anaesthesia. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.
The appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following:
Mortality and morbidity meetings;
Clinical audit programmes;
Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines
In the discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.
The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis. The appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in the Local Education and Training Board.

This is a full time locum post with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and will be based at the Leeds General Infirmary. The successful applicant will join an existing team of over 160 consultants.
