Job summary
The department of Infectious Diseases is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Physician for 6 months to join the department within Speciality and Integrated Medicine (SIM CSU)
This is a 10 PA Locum post for a Consultant in Infectious Diseases with a CCT in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology/Virology/General Internal Medicine or equivalent. This post will deliver 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs supporting professional activity,.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our clinical team who will be delivering the highest quality patient care. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and dedicated team of physicians in Leeds Teaching Trust who are committed to providing general medical care to our patients.
The ideal applicant for this post will be able to demonstrate the following attributes: strong knowledge and skills in infection, positive response to the challenges of service development, resilience and flexibility in the face of change, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to work cooperatively with colleagues both at consultant level and across the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Be responsible for care of inpatient on the Infectious Diseases ward, which is the regional inpatient centre for people living with HIV and Multi- drug resistant TB. Also for outpatient General Infectious Diseases and speciality clinics.
To support the work of the department in response to infection threats as they arise.
To work with Consultant colleagues in Microbiology to champion antimicrobial stewardship and reduction of health care associated infections and to contribute to the education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines, with regard to this.
To work with colleagues in Infectious Diseases to deliver acute cover (1 in 7 with this post) and evolve working patterns to ensure ward continuity, potentially including ward-blocks with annualised hours/ time off in lieu. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to post-take ward rounds during normal working hours.
To contribute to research, teaching, and new service developments.
The successful candidate will be supported to develop speciality interest areas with other departments depending on their CCT and training background, to meet the needs of the local population.

The Specialist Regional Infectious Diseases Unit in Leeds is based on ward J20 at St Jamess University Hospital and provides inpatient and outpatient services for the people of Leeds and surrounding areas. The 18 bed ward includes 14 isolation rooms (4 with negative pressure).
