Job summary

We have a vacancy for a Speciality doctor in Chemical Pathology to join our team of Chemical Pathologists and Clinical Scientists in Biochemistry within the developing collaborative Pathology partnership between Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT), Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (MYHT) to help us deliver excellent, high-quality integrated care to our patients.

You will need to be GMC registered, hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (or equivalent) and must be registered as a participant in the RCPath CPD scheme.

This post is based at LTHT across 2 CSUs- Pathology and Speciality Internal Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Extensive and diverse acute, routine and specialist laboratory services are provided within the regions laboratories. You will be required to take part in the Duty Biochemist rota and independently manage patients in the Lipid Clinic. You will chair the Lipid MDT and respond to GPs with advice and guidance. Lastly you will be expected to take part in clinical liaison, clinical audit, service reviews and teaching and training.

The post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing excellent and efficient healthcare to the regions patients.

About us

This is a very exciting time to join us in designing and implementing a co-ordinated Biochemistry and Chemical Pathology service for the region. A new cross West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) Laboratory Information Management System implementation programme is underway and a join procurement process is also in progress for a Pathology Managed Service contract across the Pathology Departments of CHFT, LTHT and MYHT.

This post provides an excellent and exciting opportunity to strengthen collaborative working within the region. Whilst experience as a Consultant will be an advantage, it is not essential and support will be provided as necessary. The most important characteristic is a passion for laboratory medicine, an ability to work collaboratively and a desire to provide an excellent regional Pathology service for the patients of West Yorkshire.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
