Job responsibilities
This
is a new permanent post based in the Blood Sciences Department. The post holder
will perform clinical liaison and provide a clinical interpretive service for
tests that are used for the diagnosis and monitoring of Endocrine disorders..
The
Specialty Doctor will be expected to hold clinics, under supervision. They will
also attend and contribute to departmental meetings, multidisciplinary team
meetings and teaching sessions. The role will also include supporting the
consultants in their delivery of excellent clinical care.
The
post duties may include a combination of the following. The post holder may not
be required to carry out all the duties listed. This will depend upon the
requirements of the service.
i.
Hold outpatient, telephone and video clinics
ii.
Support consultant clinical activity
iii.
Dictate and sign-off clinic letters promptly
iv.
Maintain continued professional development
v.
Attend all stipulated departmental meetings
vi.
Support multidisciplinary team meetings
vii.
Undertake audit and quality improvement projects
viii.
Teach medical students and other medical personnel as directed
ix.
Attend specialty clinics, departmental teaching activities and other relevant
clinical meetings
x.
Attend induction and comply with all local policies including dress code,
annual and study leave
Supervision
Day
to day supervision and support will be provided by the appropriate member of
consultant, medical or specialty nursing staff as appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS
OF THE POST
The
post is suitable for a candidate who has achieved Fellowship of the Royal
College of Pathologists (FRCPath) and can demonstrate considerable previous
clinical and laboratory experience and skills.

A
generic capabilities framework for the Specialty grade has been developed in
partnership between the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, the British Medical
Association and NHS Employers.

Practises
with the professional values and behaviours expected of all doctors as set out
in GMC Good Medical Practice and the Generic Professional Capabilities
Framework (or equivalent for dentists). He/She will have an understanding of

Clinical
Audit
Critically
appraises and synthesises the outcomes of audit, inquiries, critical incidents
or complaints and implements appropriate changes. This includes contributing to
Audit meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and application of agreed
clinical guidelines.
TEACHING
The
Trust is a Teaching Hospital and therefore considers the active participation
medical staff in teaching and training to be part of our core activities.
JOB
PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
The
job plan review will take place annually, normally with the managing consultant
or Clinical Director. The annual job
plan review may result in a revised prospective job plan. There may be an interim review of the job
plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives
have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
This
is a 5 PA job plan, or 2.5 days per week - covering Mondays, Wednesdays and
Thursday morning. Mondays will cover laboratory medicine 9-5pm. Wednesdays will
be with the Endocrinology team covering the lipid clinic, clinic admin, and SPA
time. Thursday morning will be covering lipid advice and guidance.
Accountability
The
postholder is managerially accountable for the use of resources to the managing
consultant and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer through
Clinical Directors. This may be amended
in the light of the Trusts management arrangements.
Standards
of Conduct and Behaviour
You
are required to work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in
Good Medical Practice.
Job
Planning & Appraisal
The
Trust attaches considerable importance to professional requirements, including
participating in annual appraisal, job planning and reviews of performance, to
help achieve the highest possible standards in the delivery of healthcare and
services. Arrangements for annual
appraisal will be managed through the managing consultant/Clinical Director.
Leave
Arrangements
All
leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy,
normally giving six weeks notice of any leave, other than in exceptional
circumstances.
Training
During
the course of your employment, you agree to undergo whatever training the Trust
deems necessary.
Continuing
Medical Education
The
Trust fully supports the requirement for CME by the relevant Royal College and
acknowledges that it is an essential component of your professional activities
that will be reviewed during the appraisal process and revalidation. Time and financial support for these activities
will be granted in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy.

position involves access to patients during the normal course of duties and is
