An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated trainee paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in Service Development
and Simulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens
Hospital as one of two Paediatric Simulation Fellows.
The
Paediatric Simulation Fellows will receive support locally in the Trust from
a mentor/supervisor who has an interest in simulation. The Simulation Fellows
will be encouraged to attend courses relevant to medical teaching and
simulation and to enhance their knowledge and understanding during this post. They will be expected to organise, run and
feedback weekly simulation sessions in different departments, work closely
with the simulation team based at St. Jamess Hospital who have access to
high fidelity simulation equipment and the other sim fellows in the trust.
This
post will be non-clinical during daytime working with a full on call
commitment to general paediatrics or neonatology.

is a fixed-term role for 12 months to commence September 2023 or March 2024.
The role would be undertaken out of training and therefore this post is
likely to extend the trainees completion of training (CCT) date
Main duties of the job
The
Paediatric Simulation Fellows generic role will include:
Run regularly in-situ simulation
sessions across the Childrens Hospital including the MDT and provide debrief
and feedback following the sessions and disseminate learning points to the
wider departments.
Helping with induction in
particular skills teaching sessions.
Spend some time in patient safety/
clinical governance around huddles and druggles.
Work with the other sim fellows in
the trust to create some collaborative sessions, team working and improve
interdepartmental working.
Attend human factors training
Education Lead for Junior Doctors
Forum and work with the chair and co-chair of the JDF.
Help with sim faculty development.
Help on regional sim courses YIPS
and HELP which have sessions run in Leeds.
On call commitment in General
Paediatrics or neonatology
Within
neonatology there is a particular emphasis on utilising simulation to aid our
active QI programme helping us develop new guidelines, review our practice
and work with our maternity colleagues.
About us
The
Leeds Childrens Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, inpatient bed
base of 286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000
inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of this activity is on the
Leeds General Infirmary site, however there is a Neonatal unit based on the
St James Hospital site. The Leeds Childrens Hospital employs a total of 116
consultants providing general, specialist and supra-regional childrens
medical and surgical services. Inpatient, day case and outpatient services
are mainly provided at the LGI.

post will have a significant focus on utilising simulation as part of our QI
work.
Both
posts will have relative flexibility allowing successful candidates to
develop their own interests as well, meaning much of the post is
self-directed. There is an expectation that successful applicants will
present their work at various simulation meetings and national specialty
meetings e.g. RCPCH, BAPM. This post will be non-clinical during daytime
working with a full on call commitment to general paediatrics or neonatology.
